Montana boon-docking questions

We are looking for a new Montana trailer and we like to boondock in Southwest Arizona during the winter months. I am curious how folks have set up their Montana's for boondocking with solar, extra batteries, inverters....and such.

If you are in Quartzsite now it would be great to see your boondocking setup.

Thanks

Boondocking is my favorite way to camp. When I say boondocking I mean away from every thing. My favorite places are the Shirley Basin and Union Pass Wyoming. The radio won’t even work let alone a cellphone. You can Google both of them.
I take my Honda 3000 watt generator. we are conservative with the water and electricity. We run the generator a little to keep the batteries charged. Other than that is all we do.

Our old rig was set up for that. We had 7 solar panels, six golf cart batteries (if I was doing it now they would be lithium batteries) and a 4500 watt inverter. In addition we carried two Honda generators.

700 AH of LiFePO4, 1200 watts of solar, a 96A solar charger and a 3000 watt hybrid inverter. So we can just about run anything we want except two AC units. We have to start our 6.5kw Onan if we want to do that.

Come out to Montana Circle in Q around the 3rd week of January. There you can see a whole spectrum of boondocking setups Everythiing from just a generator, through the battery and inverter, and ending in the solar panels powered inverters with backup batteries.

I plan to stop by The Plamosa Road Montana Circle this Janurary and see how some of the folks have set up their trailers. I stay at the La Posa Long Term Area from Sept. 1 to April 31 each year and and it will be interesting to see the setups.

I spent a year researching solar setups for my rig (see below). “Handybob” has a blog that is a great start. After that I used this site to find someone who had my same rig and had followed Bobs guidance for solar installation (he is not a fan of Quartzite installers). If you can do it yourself (I am, unfortunately, a checkbook electrician)you will save a bunch of money. With an adequate system your whole RV experience will change; freedom, independence, cost, options.

We stay in parks 90% of the time but want to have the option to be off grid with all the amenities. 720 watts on the roof expandable to 1200, 400AH BattleBorn lithium, Outback 80 amp solar charger and 3,000 watt hybrid inverter.

Solar installation

If you’re looking for a recommendation for solar installation or any Rv work, D&R Family RV in Glendale AZ are stellar with great prices. Highly recommend.
