It's interesting what we did back then in our age group. Just think, one move one way or another, we could have ended up entirely different in a different lifestyle.
Us 'Nam guys could have been Colonel Kurtz, played by Brando in the 1979 Coppola movie, 'Apocalypse Now'
Remember.... Charlie don't surf....

I was being born in 1967, at least on Cinco de Mayo. I believe that makes me officially the youngest answering this post, except Bingo of course. Thanks to all of you brave soldiers that answered the call. Your service should never be forgotten.

Getting married to my lovely bride of soon to be 44 years. Came back in April of 66 from duty in the Tonkin Gulf controlling air craft to their targets and picking up downed pilots if they got hit and made it back to the water. Spent 4 great months in S.Ca. fell in love with the area. Was sent back to Pa for discharge and planned on visiting family, packing up my Triumph tr4 and heading right back to Ca to go in catering truck business with my uncle. I met my wife on my first night home, it was love at first sight. I still haven't made it back to Ca since. Four kids and 12 grandkids later, I'm still hoping to get back there. If my kids would would stop having kids, it just might happen. Thanks Ozz, neat post.

This is fun, and it brings back good, and sometimes not so good memories with every post. It's interesting to look back with each person. You often wonder what people's early experiences were like.

Raised in small-town Oh, where everybody knew everybody, I was in 5th grade delivering newspapers on my banana seat stingray bike, and reading the headlines about all of you great folks serving our great nation! Thinking back, wondering if my next door neighbor would make it back from Nam, his mom and dad telling of his flying 'copter and getting shot up through the underside while on missions........another friend up the street losing his brother.....it effected everybody in my town. Looking back in my perspective, you all were our heroes. When someone came home, whether on leave or an end of tour, they were honored, we all cheered, we were a happy town. And when the news was grim, we all cried with the family and we all grieved for the family. I remember friends and I making cardboard walkie-talkies and watching shows like Combat, and knowing that we wanted to be just like Vic Morrow, ol' Sarge, doing our duty when we were old enough. Dad being a Korean vet wouldn't talk about his experiences, but his honor and service and all the great things you vets did, well it was an easy decision for me down the road to serve our nation for several years. Thanks to all of you.
