rubber strip screw cover?
On the sides between the fiberglass or whatever it is and the metal bottom strip over the wheels there is a strip with screws in it with a black rubber cover. I removed mine to tighten and replace some of the screws, not a big deal.
But now when I go to put the rubber cover back on the strip it seems to have shrunk by about two inches???? Tried stretching it, laying it in the sun and stretching, seems like no way it ever fit in the first place. I cant seem to think it would have been stretched that tight or the chalking would have never held in the first place.
Any suggestions on the fix?

Amazon has 100 feet of the screw cover strip for less than $20, just replace with new.

I know it seems that way but they all will eventually stretch that much with higher temps and sun exposure. I used a pair of long nose to grab the end, stretch it back to it's original position, then run a colored screw through it to hold it in place. If you do order replacement rubber make sure you get the correct width. Last time I checked they came in three different widths.

Made them replace mine under warranty. They don't use any extra and when it got cold last winter mine shrunk up and pulled out and wouldn't go back. Dealer said it was a common problem since they use as little as possibe at the factory.

Thanks for the suggestions. This isn't the thin insert stuff, that you buy in a small roll, its more like "C" shaped that kind of clips on the outside of the channel or track and had chalking along the top edge. I know that thin insert stuff will shrink and expand and pull away.

We had SOB.. IT WAS AN 03 and the strip was still there 12 years later. Our 15 Montana strips have disintegrated in the sun after one year...our carpet stayed like new on our other after 12 years. Our monty after 3 years needs replacement.
Below shows SOB carpet after 12 years..oh, and "Chia"...

update: left it lay in the sun - stood on one and about every four feet or so stretched with everything I had - repeated till got to the end. It just stretched far enough to go end to end on the channel and I chalked both ends and down the top edge like it was- so far it only pulled about a quarter of an inch from the ends -we'll see

slide weatherstrip
Speaking of weather-strip, regarding the "round" strip that covers the screw heads on the top and sides of the slides, should they be open at the ends? Seems to me to be an excellent entry point for water. Kinda like a funnel.

I double over the strip at the ends about an inch and tuck it under to close it off, just like OEM.

The strip is only to cover the screws. Does nothing for water.. water gets into everything...

Although I do double over the ends of the U shaped screw covers like OEM ... like dfb says ... the screw covers are not totally waterproof the entire length of any run. They are mostly cosmetic.
