Lifting jack problems

I have a Montana 2006 2950RL. Lately when I try to raise the rig to prepare for hooking up to my hitch the power motor or associated drive gear mechanism makes this loud ratcheting noise and the jacks do not extend further. I thought it was a battery problem but have since confirmed the. Battery passed a load test. If anyone has experienced this -I sure could use some trouble shooting advice here.
Thanks

I had a 2006 2980, so almost the same. I think that noise is in the drive motor/gear box on one side of the trailer. It attaches to a square metal bar/rod that drives the legs on the other side. This is usually cause by raising the legs beyond the top. But in your case it could just be old gears and worn out from years of usage.

I don't think it is too hard to replace that bear box.

Just replaced mine when one of then failed. If you can do the work yourself then a pair of heavier duty ones should cost about $300.

I am getting mine replaced on June 6. Failed gear drive on my 2006. Looking forward to more trouble free RVing atleast for hooking up and un-hooking from my truck!
