Sewer smell in RV

We kept smelling sewer smell in our rv so we kept checking everything and finally figured out that the Hepvo sanitary valve from the tub that goes into the gray tank was messed up. It's a waterless P trap, anyway we tried to find a replacement from 2 rv places here and they both told us they could order for us for $48.00 plus shipping. I decided to order my self and called the company name on the part and was told to go to drainmaster.com to order.....$22.75 plus shipping. No one seems to have this part in stock at the rv stores we went to as supposedly they have never heard of it. So if anyone out there is having that smell in your rv check out this valve first. It's a one way valve that prevents foul odors.

I had a similar problem when mine was new. They put that thing in backwards at the factory

You can easily fix the one you have. Here is my story: We were doing laundry in our previous Monti and had the sewer drain closed and backed up water into the shower and the washer overflowed. The Hepvo valve (waterless P trap) stopped working. I took it off and the flap/rubber tube was doubled up and not allowing water to flow out of shower drain, turned the rubber flap/tube back to the correct position and when reinstalling made sure to replace it with the water flow in the correct direction and all worked well. On a side note while vacuuming out sawdust that was left during the Monti construction from behind the basement wall in our present Monti I found a new Hepvo valve laying next to the drain line where ours is located. Apparently the worker dropped one and just reached an got another rather than searching for the first. I now know that I had found a $22.50 part, and do carry it in the Monti with our assorted plumbing supplies.

Next time I'm doing something down there I guess I should pull the panel and see if anyone left me a gift

If it was really a one way valve...we wouldn't be getting the grey tank smell back out of the shower pan drain. Mine has been that way since new. Use of the yellow colored tank chemical has kept this oder at bay most of the time. We were away from the monty for one week during thanksgiving and upon return...during first use of the shower...water didn't drain for a few minutes until it was an inch deep in there. Then there was a noise and water drained away. Hasn't repeated, but still get smell on ocasion. I have been meaning to pull out the wall in the pass-through so I can see under the shower. Wonder why a normal p-trap wasn't used for the shower. Guess I will find out if I pull that panel. John

Check for a leak in the galley or gray tank, Check for a bulge in the under belly indicating it is full of water.
