Running the Furnace while running down the road
I was wondering if anyone runs their furnace while they are driving to your destination so the Monty won't be freezing cold when you get there? If so, have you had any problems with that?

Well i cant talk for the rest of them but i have run with it on.....i dint want anything to freeze

That can't be any worse than running the fridge on propane to keep the contents cold. If you do that you might as well turn on the heater since both these devices are supported on 12V. Keep in mind the furnace runs through propane much faster, but it should certainly last day by day.
You'll need to turn off the propane before entering long tunnels or refueling - any spark as these appliances reignite could cause a big booming problem in these areas. This is why the rule is not to run with propane turned on.

Here in Canada the drivers manual says to check to see all pilot lights are off before traveling. I am only repeating what the book says, do I go by the book...

The furnace does not have a pilot light...if really cold we run with the furnace on the lowest setting.

We run with it on low when the temperatures are cold since the furballs ride in the rig.

We don't run with it on either. Or at least we haven't in our over nine years of full timing. I'm with exav8tr on this one.

I do not normally run with the furnace on, but a couple of times I forgot to turn it off before traveling and it did come on and off for a couple of hundred miles. When we parked and went inside it was warm.

Safety first. Suggest heater off. When you arrive at your destination you can always leave your jacket on a few minutes longer.

Seems is always a HOT (oooo, Carol, could not resist,  sorry) topic.
We prefer not to run with furnace on, but, have done so when we leave MI in 4 below and Tana is loaded with my violets. Run at lowest setting.
Best idea is to leave before the temps get that low, or lose the violets. Losing the violets is low on the list of possibilities.
Do what feels best and safe to you. Have a great time in your Monty.

We have done it but not on any regular basis and for a short time to get out of cold weather.

Normally we do not run with the furnace on. Each spring we return home and have some cold high country to travel through and rather than winterize the trailer I just keep the heat on.

We rarely even turn it on at night while sleeping.
When we do turn it on, it only takes a few minutes to heat the whole place. Don't see any benefit to running while traveling unless you have furballs in the rig.
