Toilet Valve
My toilet keeps filling up with fresh water on it's own (2013 Mountaineer). Does this valve have an adjustment? Is it known for going bad?

They go bad this is a known issue. Many have replaced with a Dometic 310 or 320. It's on my shopping list for the next time i'm at camping world. It's a better toilet all the way around.

Yup, too many problems with the Tetford. Either water won't stop coming in or won't hold in the bowl. A Dometic is in our future also.

If you have the tetford, get in the habit of shutting off the water every time you leave the rig. It could still go bonkers when you are there...but at least you will be there to shut it down and start the cleanup. John

Thanks for the suggestions. After doing more research I have learned that the Thetford toilet has a vacuum breaker. This is what is causing it to fill in low pressure or air in the line situations. I think this is a bad design for an RV but is probably a code thing. I looked at some of the Dometic toilets and they also seem to have vacuum breakers. I will definitely be adding an additional ball valve to turn off water to the toilet when not in use.

A shark bite is a cheap and easy solution if you go that way. I put them on the toilet and all the faucet runs.

This running water in the toilet has happened to us. In each case it was low water pressure. And, it each case the water continued to run after flushing. We have never had the valve open on it's own without first using the flush pedal.

I had several (more than one is way too many) nighttime floodings of the toilet room/bedroom/basement. We got so every time we left the trailer we shut off the water. We had already replaced the original toilet with an identical unit as the valve assembly was not readily available. Since then many people have posted this recurring problem. Even with a new identical replacement, within a year we had the same problem.  We have purchased and replaced several valve assemblies in the replacement toilet. That only seemed to be a temporary fix.
Finally gave up this Fall and ordered the Dometic 310 with hand sprayer for the same price as the previous replacement toilet. Didn't buy the Dometic 320 as it would not have fit in the tight confines of the toilet room. One new piece of hardware I came across at Home Depot was a flexible reinforced water line that ran from the old PEX piping to the toilet and had a Sharksbite type valve on the end where I could shut the toilet off in the future if required. Interesting in that the proper fitting for the toilet was a lavatory type female.  The first flexible line I bought was for a toilet and the fitting on its end would not work.
We have also learned to carry key replacement parts in advance of the various problems. Whether it is the toilet valve, the red propane valve, or any of the other not too expensive parts mentioned in the forum, they are all needed immediately and very hard to find when you are out on the road.
