This trip not in the Montana

We will be leaving in less than a week now for Europe. Our 50th wedding anniversary will be on Friday, June 22, which will find us in Prague. After a couple of days there we board a river boat for a week long trip up the Elbe. At the end of the river trip we will spend 2 nights in Berlin before flying home to DFW (Dallas/Fort Worth) on July 3. This is our anniversary gift to each other.

For the first time in many years we will not be hosting a Fourth of July barbecue here at our old country home for some of our minister friends, usually about a dozen couples. But in August/September we will take our Montana for a couple of weeks in Colorado: Buena Vista and Estes Park.

David and Shirley,

Congratulations my friends, you have earned this and you can have your fourth of July celebration again next year. It might be worth becoming a pastor to get an invite to that! Perhaps we can hook up when you come back out to CO. Take care, and enjoy!

Thanks, friends, for your gracious words. Actually Shirley and I met 55 years ago (September 1952) when I became her pastor in the little Methodist Church in Magnolia, Texas. She likes to tell people that I was her pastor while she was still in high school! True, but then I was a very young pastor.

In June of 1957 I was appointed to be the pastor of the Methodist Church in Waskom, Texas (some of you may have stopped at the Texas Welcome station there coming in from Louisiana on I-20). We were married in Magnolia on June 22, and began our life together in Waskom.

Yes, we have the extended warranty, but we have never had need to make a major claim. We have been blessed beyond measure, and still are! I think we will try to stay together at least for a little while longer.

We think it is fantastic you are getting to take this trip. Happy 50th. We are about 3 years behind you. Our 47th will be June 24. We took a trip around the British Isle for our 40th and a trip to Germany for our 45th. Both were outstanding experiences. I hope yours is all you expect. Bon Voyage!!!

The time has finally arrived. We are so excited for you. Have a safe and happy trip and a wonderful Golden Anniversery. I don't know of two people more deserving than you.

Congrats on your milestone. Maureen & I just celebrated our 30th and as we look around at others in our age group many have not made it this far. Your 50 puts you in rare company, we will try to follow.

Congatulations you two! Dory and I figured we would never see our 50th anniversary at the regular rate, so we celebrate in dog years .

Enjoy your trip, and your upcoming trip to Colorado!
