National Fishing License

There was a time (many years ago) when I would fish for bass 2 or 3 times a week. Then life events changed and I didn't make time for it. Now that I'm retired, I would like to get back into fishing. Of course, I'll squeeze it in around all the other things that the full-timing life style offers.

My question is; is there now a national fishing license or do you have to buy a license in each state visited? I can see the hassle of purchasing a license from each state visited would put a damper on fishing. I know that some states offer a two or three day license at a reduce cost of an out of state license. I would like to purchase just one fishing license that would be good in all states.
