Sliding Tray
With the help of my friend Dean, we added a sliding tray to the front compartment of the RV.
I use the front compartment to store my air compressor and Honda generator among other things. It was difficult to take the generator out or put it away because of the lip on the compartment. Also, it always seemed like the air compressor or generator was in the way.
The sliding tray makes it very easy and it appears like I gained space because the compartment is much neater. When the tray is extended, I have access to storage space under it.
The installation was quite simple to do and only took a couple of hours to complete. The cost for the project was around $30.00. I used 24” slide rails with a capacity of 100 lbs from Home Depot and a 2 foot square ¾” piece of plywood, also from Home Depot. The mounting hardware consisted of 2 steel L brackets (modified) for the rear and 2 joist hangers for the front. I used the rear L brackets only because I was concerned about mounting to the rear plate. I think the grey water tank is directly behind the wall and I didn’t want to screw through it.
Pictures of the project can be seen at:

That is a nice job. We did order the sliding tray option. wound up costing us @ 200.00 runs the complete length of the front through compartment and I think slides out from both ends.We planed to use it for the generator among other things. However I do like your idea of generator storage in the very front compartment.Might even be a job I can handle. We bought a Kipor 3500ti today and I am going to do that if it will fit.

Mickey,
Excellent upgrade! I'm planning to do the same thing for my batteries. Thanks for the visual.

Sue and Ed,
We fulltime now and we are in Port Isabel, TX. We will be heading to North Carolina sometime in May. Our home was in Kinston, NC about 70 miles from the coast. Hope to see you down the road.

Really nice job Mickey. I'd love to try it, but I'm a little fuzzy on the mounting brackets. Any chance of some close-up pictures of the mounting details?

How much weight do you think that would support.. The Kipor 3500ti weighs 132lbs....

I posted some pictures of the brackets during the installation. Additional tek screws were added once the shelf was square. I used 3/4" screws for the rear and 1/2" screws for the front.

Rich, The rails I used are rated for 100 lbs. The Honda generator and air compressor combined weight is about 70 lbs.
One note: The clearence is only 17" which works fine for my equipment. I'm not sure your Kipor would fit????

Real nice job Mickey. I'm guessing on the brand of sliders, is it Accuride full extention?

Very nice job. Now I just have to get the generator and then install the tray. Bet it sure does make it easier to get everything out of there.

That looks great Mickey,
Do they lock when in or out? What happens if you have to brake hard?
