Smashed Bugs and Bounce

Just completed a two week trip through coastal Carolinas. Used wet dryer sheets to clean the bugs off the front cap and they worked GREAT! Much easier than soap and scrubbing. Hosed front cap and wiped the bugs w/dryer sheets and the bugs came right off. Rinsed for a clean rig!!!

Aha, so the key is to wet the dryer sheets as well as hosing the cap first. I tried the dryer sheets dry and didn't think it did a particularly good job. I figured I was doing something wrong since others reported good success. Thanks for the post. I'll try them wet.

Thank you capn chris. I also just traveled thru the coastal Caorlinas and my cap is a mess. I was going to clean the cap tomorrow and it will give me a chance to try your suggestion.

Just hose the cap to soften the bugs and knock off the big pieces, then use the dryer sheet like a wash cloth on the wet cap. I do half the cap at a time, rinse her off, flip the sheet, and do the other half. Takes less than 10 minutes. Each treatment seems to get easier. I like my Monty clean if possible!!!

Has anyone tried the dryer sheets with the so called Love Bugs that leave horrible RED streaks? If these dryer sheets work on those littlte guys they are great. Thank God those buys are only out in the early spring here in the South.

I didn'tg use Bounce...but did use "Great Value" Fabric Softener Sheets from Walmart (I am cheap). I hose off the end cap, went to town with the sheet and Hot Damn!!!!! Rolled that bug splat off like a knife sliding through hot butter. I rinsed afterward and gave it a try on my F250 and it worked fine there, too. I noticed it was kind of streaky film after the water dried so I got Turtle Wax out and sprayed it on, waxed and have a shiney bug free end cap. All told, the work took 20 minutes.

I used the bounce sheets this weekend for the first time. Man, am I impressed! But I'll withhold judgement for a bit. We had some rain and I don't know how much that softened up the bugs. But my first impression is this was the easiest those bugs ever came off.

Carol, had some red streaks from the bugs, too. I tried my black streak remover WIPES, the ones that come in the plastic can where you pull out one at a time. A little scrubbing and the red came right off.

I had mine all ready to be used...but dear hubby forgot and scrubbed and scrubbed at them bugs....he said next time I can do it and use the fabric sheets...haha!

The fabric sheets I'm using have already been used in the dryer. I don't see any need to use brand new ones for the bugs. They still have the same texture as new ones.

I didn't realize it was just the texture that helped. If so, couldn't you just use cheese cloth or something similar. I always thought the softener chemical contributed something,too. What's your opinion, everybody? Guess we could start our own scientific study.....

Now this is a great idea. I am going to try it out this weekend. I have lots of love bugs on the front of the TT and TV so it should be a good test.

I would be interested in the results. I also have a box of new ones, a brand I picked up on a Walmart run and Vicki didn't like them. So I could switch to new ones if it is, indeed, the chemicals that make the difference. My one time "test" was tainted by lots of rain possibly softening up the bugs in advance so my test with used ones may not be valid. My latest method of removing several days of bugs was to pay a guy to wash and wax the rig. He took the bugs off first. I didn't see how he did it though.

Oh, I like your last method of taking off the bugs and dirt, Steve. If your rig is too clean, and you need to really test those dryer sheets, just jump over to Alabama. You could conduct your test here, on our Monty!
