Question Has anyone sucessfuly installed a wireless back up camera

I was just wondering if anyone has been successful in installing a wireless back up camera on their Montana. I am debating getting a back up camera on my Montana but was kind of hoping there was this great wireless unit that would work great all the time. If not any advice regarding reliable wired systems and how you routed the wires.

My 2016 came with a Furrion observation camera. It's wireless and works good. If you are going to spend the money on a camera go with an observation camera.

Yes, an observation camera, not a backup camera. If factory pre-wired it is plug and play.

2X on the observation camera! Our '15 came with the Furrion backup system. Looking at the Furrion web site, the specs show our rigs are too long for that system. I was able to work with our dealer to get the camera system upgraded to the observation. Much better! Another thought is the wiring... Our rig was wired to power the camera all the time. Several folks have re-wired their camera to be powered from the running lights, so it is only on when the the lights are on.

We have had a model from RVcams since 2006 on both our 2006 3400 and now the 13 3402. Never a problem with reception and no failures.

I powered my wireless camera from the rear running light. Just need to have the headlights on for it to work. Only two negatives: Gets dirty, especially in the rain. In really hot weather, when the camera faces the sun, it will sometimes black-out temporarily (like 4 or 5 seconds).

Click on the link above. This what put on my 2013 Montana FB3900. I mounted it high on the back cap. Snaked the wire through using fishing tape and utilizing the mark light openings. Then down the cap along the right side underneath the bottom of the trailer, up through the propane compartment and out just above the hitch. Then I mounted the monitor on the dashboard of my truck, underneath and out through a fender opening that had a plastic cap on it. Also, when the trailer it not connected, I have a camera mounted on my tailgate on top of the handle. This assists backing up when there is no trailer. The monitor can feed 2 cameras by switch between "V1 and V2".

I use this camera to monitor vehicles passing or me passing them. The camera lends a view so that you know when it is clear to make a lane change.

BTW, I bought my at Costco for a lot less than the site above.

Yes. I have a wireless backup camera I got from Tadi Brothers. They replaced the sending and receiving units at no charge. After that it worked ok. I got an extension cable for the sending unit and Which again was supplied at no charge and ran the cable to the front of my camper. Now it works fine.

If you wanted the camera only when backing up then you could wire it to your backup lights. Wireless seems to have come a long way and seems to be the camera of choice for many campers and many like to see whats behind them at all times.

Our 2017 3730FL came with the Furrion wireless. It is factory wired to running lights, so only works when they are on. I drive with them on all the time anyway. The signal has always been good, with no interruptions. It has a "distance grid" always displayed on the screen, which I use for clearance to get back in the lane after passing.

Sounds like a good setup.

Two easy ways is it will be listed in the brochure or the mounting attached center of the back wall between marker lights. Next check for extra wires on center top marker light.

Mine is not.

I would think if its pre wired it should be a fairly easy job.

If it is prewired the mounting pad for the camera will be on the rear cap

Our rig came with the camera preinstalled, not just prep. And it is wired to the parking lamps.

Installed a Voyager wireless on my 3402rl. Removed middle running light on rear cap and installed camera wired to light wires. Operates when running lights are on. Bought additional wired camera ( cheaper than wireless ) for truck bed. Snaked wire out back of cab. Makes hooking up a breeze.

AZ Traveler, how can you tell if it's a observation camera or a back up camera set up on my fifth wheel. Bought a 2016 3791RD last year from a used RV dealer he got from a auction and did not come with the monitor, camera came with the camper. The camera is mounted by the rear top running lights. I noticed at night time the infrared light's on the camera are on, so would that mean it's wired hot/on all the time for a observation system.
