Attic vent covers - Montana Owners Club

During the course of the washdown of the rig the other day, I had to get on the roof to clean the side areas above the slides and the air conditioner covers. Being the dedicated owner that I am, in addition to the cleaning, I did a quick visual inspection and discovered that the front attic vent cover was missing. Is this a common rv item or Montana specific. Using iPhone at the campground to keep up with what DW calls "my buddies" so Internet searching is somewhat limited. Anybody know the details? After Ozz's post am thinking about a white rustoleum painted coffee can with hotdog roasting stick induced perforations!

I bought two new ones at the Montana Dealer as mine were cracking from the sun. They said they only sell the whole thing not just the cap.

I sprayed the new ones with white liquid vinyl that comes in a can hoping they would last longer.

Bingo, if you are talking about the smaller ones there are generics available at Camping World. They have spring tabs that hold it on the pipe when you slide them down in it. If you are talking about the larger ones that are a front and rear pair I don't know, but it would seem like they would have similar ones as the smaller ones for those too.

They are the large flat ones that ventilate the attic, not the small holding tank vents. Still have one,I will get on the roof tomorrow and take some pics of the missing one and the remaining one. Believe it or not, imam somewhat serious about the coffee can since rain in the attic cannot be a good situation. Stay tuned for a pic update.

We had to replace ours, went to Camping World got the covers. Only needed the caps, but had to buy the whole unit. All we needed was the caps. I think we paid around 32.00 dollars for both. The caps just screw on.

On our old one, the large ones deteriorated and I could not find an RV at the time who carried them. Small ones are standard. I took a small pie pan, turned it upside down, drilled a hole through the center, painted it white, bolted it down, caulked the nut and it was a perfect replacement, with no worries about future deterioration. $4.00 each. The originals on my 2010 are already starting to look bad. Not my idea, read on a thread someplace, but one solution that works.

Thanks Charlie, after looking at the website you provided, I went up on the roof and that is exactly what I need. Hopefully it won't take forever to get it, that coffee can is going to look odd for a while!

The vents are called Attic Mushroom Vents.My dealer ordered them from Keystone. They only sell the complete vent, not just the cap. Part # 102776. I don't remember the price.

They run 12 to 15 bucks and avail on numerous web sites. You might want to put just a little RTV sealant in the treads to keep the new one from coming off. I think they just vibrate loose and just fly away because ours was missing last summer.

Thanks to Charlie (8.1al) I have the vent cap on the way. Total price from stalkupsrv delivered to front door via Ebay was $18.00. Will definitely use Michelle's advise on some kind of sealant this time! Will be glad to get the piece of tin-foil off of the roof if it is still there. The temporary fix was even easier than Ozz's coffee can fix!

I cut the bottom of a washer fluid jug fit great used silicon to secure it.

Hmm, I know I had them on my Montana, but after the rubber roof was replaced, I have them no more. Can't say that I can tell any difference in heating or cooling and I think lots of RVs don't have them. Also, we only use our Montana for 2-3 nights at a time usually, so I can't imagine they make much difference.

The covers prevent debris from getting inside. Leave them off if you'd like but I'm wondering what kinds of stuff would get down there and what could happen.

I haven't had any problems with my covers but our trips are short and infrequent, but I like the idea of extra sealant just for extra assurance. I should probably get back on the roof soon for another look see - it's getting close to that time. It seems the trailer sure needs more maintenance in general than the stickhouse, but my stickhouse doesn't go anywhere. DOH!!! Maybe I need to use the rig more to make the maintenance worth my while.

I just had my rubber roof replaced from the snowtober (snow storm in October). One of my caps were cracked as a result. Used some sealant to repair it.

I was thinking about if it happened again to maybe reduce the pipe diameter with PVC and then using the standard (more readily available) 1 1/4 vent caps.
