Residential fridge questions

We have really enjoyed the residential fridge in our unit. I have a couple of questions.
1. We bought the unit in Fort Worth while we were on an extended work related stay. When we returned home a few weeks ago I was not sure what to do to "prep" the fridge for travel except put the travel bolt in place. I could not remember if there was more to do from our PID several weeks earlier. I assumed the inverter would run the fridge when I unplugged the 50 amp. When we got home it seemed like the fridge had not been running. I don't think the lights came on but I think I recall no lights appeared. Nothing had totally thawed out but it was not rock hard frozen either. Is there a switch to throw to make the inverter kick in? What is the proper things to do to get the fridge ready for travel so that everything stays cold?

2. Now that we are home what is the correct thing to do for storage? For our former RVs (non-residential) I turned of the unit and propped the door open with a fridge door holder so it would dry out. I am not sure what to do with this unit now. The RV is plugged in and fridge is running. I am not sure proper way to turn the unit off. Should I turn it off and let it dry out? We will not be going anywhere for a couple of months. I think I need to empty the ice bin. Do I need to do the low water drain to get all the water out of the fridge lines? I could not find answers in the owners manual. The fridge manual is just what comes with a Samsung fridge like you bought it at Sears - not RV specific. A list of what to do would be appreciated.

Hope you enjoying the Montana. First, make sure the inverter is on (mine was not from the dealer). Also it can shut down if battery is low.

Check your battery vdc. The inverter will kick off when the input dc volts drop below 10.5 if it is the same Magnum as ours.
As for storing the unit, if not connected to shore power, turn off the inverter. If connected to shore power, simply put the unit in demo mode by holding the power freeze and freezer button at the same time for ~3sec. The display will show 0F in each section. The LED interior lights should go out in about 10 minutes with the doors left open. I would put a small fan blowing into the sections to dry them out. Don't worry about the water unless expecting freezing weather.

Hi MikenDebbie, I don’t have a lot of experience either but I do remember the dealer pointing out a “master disconnect” for the inverter in the nose compartment just above the 12 volt batteries. You might check it is in the on position. I also think the inverter has some lights that indicate function. Just a few quick ideas..

Good luck

You definitely want to clean the ice bin and rest of interior. One other note. The inverter display shows watts on load side. My pix indicates 50 watts - reefer in low power mode most likely.

question, if the battery switch is set to off, will they still charge on shore power? Just picked up our new 331rl today. Dealer did not know how to shut off fridge when on shore power.

Yes. The other circuit made through wiring not connected to that switch got to many other things through other breakers and fuses. That big switch only controls the power to the inverter.

Two ways to shut off frig. At the breaker in converter box - mine is kitchen 2. That will also kill some other 110 outlets - one near stove and over on our hutch counter. The other way is to put the reefer in demo/store/ sales mode by holding "freeze" & "power freeze" at same time for a few seconds. It will chime and the display will show OF & OF. This kill only the cooling components - lights stay on. To start cooling again, repeat process.

masterdrago,
thanks for the info. I did our pdi for our 3791RD yesterday and the tech showed us the kill switch in the battery compartment, but did not know what it was for.
I may be picking your brain for info when we pickup the rig in a week.

thanks, Brucelas

I have a 40 X 60 garage/shop with 14 ft doors and keep the RV inside during the winter. I like to keep it plugged in (30 amp) to keep the batteries charged and occasionally we use the microwave, TV, heat by gas or heat pump, and other things but not the refer. How can I keep it plugged in and turn off the refer only (including the lights) and leave the doors open and still have power for all other purposes?

I just found the breaker the refer is on and turned it off, along with turning off the inverter. Drawback is TV is on same breaker. I do it when I want power to Monty for maintenance but not wanting to run refer. May need to change strategy during football season.

Where is the refer plugged in? It would be unusual that they would hard wire a refer, but maybe they do. Has anyone traced the power line?

There is a plug on the inverter box for the fridge. Does anyone know if this is the only plug for the refer? If so does shore power run thru the Inverter to power the fridge?
