Slide outs

Help I have a 2001 Keystone Montana 2955RL When you push the in or out on the switch its starts but will not quit we were putting a sub floor on the main slide out where the couch and table are so we thought we should test the slide out it came in and I let go of the switch and it kept going so kept pushing out and it must have a Thermal circuit breaker because it stopped and would not do a thing wouldn't go in or out after 1 minute it started working again took the main slide all the way out put the couch in front of the fridge so we could finish the job went to bring it in a little and there was no stopping it just kept coming in so it grabbed the first chair and crushed it into the table destroying the table between the chairs and also pushed the couch into the vent below the fridge. Really messed everything up UGLY ( So now I am wondering is there a relay for the motors I am thinking the points are sticking and where is the relay location ?

Sounds like the main relay for the hydraulic pump is sticking when you engage it. Tap on it with a screw driver handle when you let off the switch and see it it stops. Might need replacement. IMHO.

Thanks Eagleback for getting back with me. Do you know the location of where the relay might be ? I have netting under the slide out and hoping it was not there

In the front end where the pump and tank are with the hoses over the battery box. you will find it on the road side. It will have 4 heavy 12 volt wires going to it. The center is the 12 volt main and the 2 on each side is for to power the pump in or out and will have a couple of smaller wires plugged in and they go to the switches on the control panel to activate the relay, I found some are mounted on the inside wall right next to the pump. mine is black in color around 4 inches long by about 2 inches wide and 2 to 3 inches tall. Of course im using my unit as an example as i only have the slides on it and do not have any hydraulic landing gear or levelers. in which there will be additional valves and wires to the hydraulic manifold for all the other things that some people might have on there units.

WOW thanks again this makes me feel better I was thinking I had to pull down the netting were the slide out is. But now I know exactly what you are talking about and going to check.

This is assuming you have hydraulic slides. The relay is technically called a reversing polarity contactor, essentially a heavy duty DC reversing relay. Mine is located directly on top of my pump in the front storage compartment. And yes, there is an auto reset (thermal) circuit breaker in the circuit, also mounted near the pump.

It could also be your wall switch sticking. Did you try rocking the switch back to the OPEN position while the slide was traveling in?

Thank you for all the help. I believe I have Hydraulic slide outs I have too travel about 100 miles to get to the trailer but I have a better understanding of what I am looking for. I have attached a picture of what the motor looks like and I think it is Hydraulic But I am still not sure where the relay is or solenoid

That is definitely a hydraulic pump. But much different than my 2007. My reversing relay sits on top of my motor, in the area where your yellow wire nuts are. I see fairly large red wires going up behind the pump, and smaller wires going from above to the back side, so maybe your relay is located behind there. Or possibly inside what appears to be a box where the white switch is mounted.

And that white switch with the RESET label is something I do not have either. My battery positive wire goes direct to a 50 amp auto reset circuit breaker. And the other side of the breaker goes direct to my reversing relay. Obvious changes between 2001 and 2007.

BB_TX has the right idea. The Dewald hydraulic system was used in the first Montanas but was subsequently replaced by the Lippert system around 2003/2004.

I suspect the solenoid is behind the white up/down switch based on the heavy red wires coming up into the box.

PM member Drifty1 and ask him. He has a 2001 Montana and is very knowledgeable about the pieces parts.

Thanks for the help Carl & Susan I left Drifty1 a message I am thinking to get the right part I will have to have the old one in hand or maybe just fix the old one .

WOW I have been doing some more checking I have the original Dewalt WZ10000 solenoids and the replacement part is a Lippert 383852 and the cost is $179.00 each OUCH !!! So i am hoping that the old ones are serviceable and I can fix them. or I can find a cheaper solenoid that will work.

Looks like they just used two heavy duty D.C. relays with a buss bar connecting the two to create a D.C. polarity reversing relay. Is there any kind of machnical interlock between the two to prevent both actuating at the same time?

If there is physical room I don't see reason you could not replace the two with one of the Trombetta type.

You know I don't know if there is any kind of lock. What I do know when you're extracting the Bedroom slide always goes out first then the main slide goes out. When you're retracting the Bedroom comes in first then the main slide comes in Thanks again

My slides do the same. The smallest lightest (bedroom) slide always goes first.

Is it as it appears in your picture that there are two separate relays connected by a buss bar? As far as the interlock I mentioned, in my working years we used many reversing motor starters. They were essentially two relays that had a mechanical link between the opening relay and the closing relay to prevent both actuating at the same time.
