Cost of filling an LP Tank
Our current CG in Kremmling, CO can fill LP tanks. For an empty 30# tank, posted price is $73.
It's been a few months since I've filled a tank, but isn't that close to robbery? If so, what should I expect to pay?

That's not robbery, Brant... That's gotta be a misprint...
*On Edit~ I don't believe propane would hit that price if the US attacked both N. Korea AND Iran at the same time with nuclear weapons, AND at the same time 3 hurricanes concurrently devasted the entire Gulf Coast production/refineries AND the eastern seaboard major cities...
Wow, I could write a "Made for TV" movie...

Brant,
I usually just have mine filled at a campground when I run out in one tank. I paid something like $17 and change at the KOA in Cripple Creek so that price has to be wrong. I'd think somewhere between $15 and $20 depending, no more.

Some are getting around $12, but not at CGs - at regular propane company stores.
Even reversed at $37 is "robbery"...

Dave,
I know I can get it cheaper, but it's so much easier to have it filled when you're already in a campground with propane. At home I have to factor in the gas mileage driving to the closest LP "station". That, and, of course, I'm lazy.

Mac, I'm sure I will end up doing the CG thing occasionally, but I would try to buy from a propane retailer as I was passing by if possible. I'm getting really CHEAP in my old age. I can't stand knowing the markup on that stuff.

I filled mine up this spring, cost was around $25 for both tanks. As stated, it depends on where you go to fill up the tanks.

I'd be curious, Mac on why the CG owner is charging that price. I'd ask. It's not like no one ever questioned him before on that price... I'm the kind of guy that would stop on purpose (but not fill), just to ask...

I paid $18.00 last week at a Marina in the mountains. That means they are not cheap.

Brant, sounds like there is a consensus building here... Is this guy (CG) the only propane fill place for 200 miles, or something??? $73 for 30#? Someone needs to call Guiness Book of Records...
I don't know, has anyone else even seen anything like that? So much for propane being an "alternative fuel"...

Dave,
I'm thinking in my case I was at 11,000 feet and at nights the temperature was running in the mid 30's still. So, that coupled with the closest town about 30 miles round trip and my wife prefering to stay warm, sounded like a bargain to me!

Dont forget that one can always invest in space heaters to help offset the cost of propane while on the road....

I always forget how pretty the Black Hills are and how close they are to where I live. On the way back home we went by Devils Tower in WY since my mom had never been there. That's very cool too and well worth the slight detour. And, like I said, CLOSE to home, it was exactly 407 miles from Devils Tower to our front door, well actually to the street in front, my wife wouldn't let me drive right to the front door!
We've never gotten the space heaters, but I know everyone says to use them, we'll have to pick one or two up for those cold nights in the Colorado mountains.

Oh how I loved the days I lived in the Black Hills (Rapid City). I picked up 2 space heaters this spring for $30, almost the cost of filling 2 propane bottles once each. =) Between the 2 space heaters, the fire place heater, and the bedroom a/c heatstrip that coach can sure get cozy... You wont be sorry for having a space heater or two.
