home defense

I was on another forum recently and the subject of home ( trailer defense) weapons were the subject. I am an advocate of using a shotgun for this purpose, however someone mentioned a gun that I had never heard of that sparked my interest. It called the Taurus Judge, it shoots both 45 colt cartridges as well as 410 shotshells. It is a revolver that holds 5 shots and you can load it with any combo of these shells. I am sold on this little chunk of dynamite...lol It is the perfect size to keep in the trailer, to carry on hikes , while fishing etc...

If you are interested in a small easy to maneuver weapon you should take a look at one. Hope everyone has a great day...Scott

Scott,

You can forget the Taurus Judge. You are right, it is a great handgun but is illegal in California. By being able to shoot the 410 ga shotgun shell it is considered to be a rifle or long gun and the barrel has to be 18 inches or longer. Taurus has just lately come out with a Circuit Judge that has a 18 1/2 inch barrel and a stock that uses the 45 colt/410ga rounds.

My guess would be that you would need a strong hand and high pain tolerance to get a little one like the "Public defender" back on target after the first shot. On the other hand the first shot maybe somewhat discouraging to the other party.

Frank, I now that it is not legal in Ca , however I know a guy....lol.I did see the Circuit Judge and it is a cool looking little gun , but not practical for my application. I am not a gun nut by any means, I own a few and shoot around 50,000 shells a year out the end of a shotgun barrel, but this little dynamo just struck a note with me.

Dick I bet it has a little recoil, but if I ever had to use for defense recoil would be the least of my worries.

Helmic, I wasn't try to offend anyone or raise any eyebrows with controversy, just letting folks know about a alternative to a shotgun or conventional pistol as a means of protection . This is Around the Campfire , a place to discuss non related items that dont fit into other categories. Many folks on this forum have some means of defense while traveling and those are the people I was addressing. Scott

I've shot the judge many times. Recoil is not bad at all. Jim

There is a 44 mag. shot shell as well as a lot of other rat or snake shells out there. Up close they would be effective, but not have a long range effect.

Hurry, before the Sheeple arrive and this gets shut down. I'll huff and I'll puff and I'll blow your house down, said the big bad wolf! What is your house made of? Are you prepared for the big bad wolf?

I'm headed to the gun store next week to look for a Kel-Tec PMR-30. Sucker shoots 22 Magnum shells and takes a 31-round clip (not a misprint). With 31 rounds in a clip, I can't miss!

Taurus has a less than stellar (a lot less) reputation for dependability, durability and repair service. Don't take my word for it, search on the internet and you'll find lots of unhappy campers (pun intended).

Pat , I bet the Keltec would be great fun, however not really a good self defense gun especially for the trailer. A scatter gun like the Judge or a short barrel shotgun is a better set up, instead of one projectile it throws many. Keltec has some slick guns none the less.

Tom I know that the Taurus products are a little rough around the edges (thats why I am a Smith and Wesson fan), but for what I want it for it wont see a lot of rounds through it.Smith and Wesson makes a similar gun to the Judge called the Governor, it has a 6 shot cylinder and is a little more bulky. ...Scott

Personally, I like the Remington 870, 12 ga, pistol grip, 18 inch barrel, with saboted partitioned high velocity slugs. Legal in the lower 48 and will stop anything.

Grow Up! This is no place for this subject

Thank you Ken and Ginny for attempting to save this topic. Afraid the damage was done so it has been locked down. Your effort is noted and appreciated. RVWheels, MOC Admin.
