What I'd like to see

I'd like to have a fifth wheel with aluminum siding again. First, it is light, second, easy to fix and last, it won't fade like gelcoat.
I'd like to see an aluminum roof again.. No need for a 12 year warranty . No rips, or falling apart... I'd like to see no picture board... Stain it!..
I'd like to see lifetime warranties on frame, structures.. 5 years on the rest... I'd like to see repairs made in a timely matter... No more months on the repair lots... Whenever yhe Rv is on for repair, another day is added to the warranty for everyday out of service..

Some fivers and tag a longs do come with the old tradional looking siding, although not sure what the actual siding material is. Don't hold your breath on the rest.

They do have a life time warranty on the frame if you die soon enough.

You surely don't live in or near Kansas. We have HAIL and your fiver would look like someone took bird shot practice top and bottom. That's the major reason I buy fiberglass sided RVs with rubber roofs ... they just stand up better out here. The warranty deal would make the price so unfathomable you couldn't own an RV. But hey you can always dream ...

I NEVER want to see another aluminum roof! My class C (four units back) had one that corroded all to pieces while in storage. I'd washed and even waxed the thing for several years, but didn't for two and it turned into a perforated piece of junk. I'm unbelievably happy with EDPM!

Aircraft aluminum is perfect if you can beef up the frame to handle the weight.

Amen! Doubt we could afford the insurance premiums out here.

You all have not seen many Newell's or Prevosts and very few airstreams are badly dented.

Yes I have, in Kansas. Got a well dented Air Stream just down the block. Of course out here all our cars have at least minor hail dents and you don't buy a 20 year roof, because you'll be replacing it before that.

Some RV's use a fiberglass roof, it is an upgrade and of course has a lot more weight. Like the sides it is painted for durability. Hail can dent pretty much everything else. I also still see Filon in use for siding.

Very true. I have also not seen many Newells or Prevosts that cost less than about 15 times what an $80k Montana costs.

I know it will sound far fetched for most of you but being a welder and very handy I have thought about building my own from scratch 5th wheel more than once. It's the only way you can get EXACTLY what you want.

Of course it would be a giant project and take forever to complete and cost a bundle so for now we just deal with what the manufactures put out and move on.

Still I am with the op it is fun to dream......

Back in the day most Rv's had aluminum siding we had 4 of them .They are heavy they dent easily . Two of the 4 were damaged by hail same for the roofing.

Mtlakejim am a welder also but if I built one you would need a semi tractor to handle the weight. However it would last a lifetime.

Any camper will last a lifetime, if you pull them fast enough.
