Setting electric brakes

I'm new to using electric brakes on my fifth wheel always used surge brakes with my boats what is the best way to get the correct gain on the controller thanks

How I was taught, get load rolling 5 mph shift to neutral using controller activate slowly till trailer only is breaking . Use that # as starting point then usually adjust up a little depending on weight.
What you want is the trailer to do most of the breaking without locking up.
We’re pulling 15.5k and Fords controller is set at 8.5
