Commode seal/petal lubrication
What is the best product to use for lubricating the commode seal that is opened when you flush? ...mine seems to be slow in closing back to normal position...sometimes I need to help by raising the foot petal...what would you use to lubricate the foot petal as well??

Lots of folks lube them with about anything you could imagine that lubes, but this is the beginning of the end, I would order a new seal and change it out.
You will get more 'miles' out of it by lubing it, but you are just prolonging the seal change.
Good luck buddy.

That's just how mine was before the the pedal fell and was replaced by an updated one which also fell off after about a month, so had the whole toilet replaced with a front pedal one which seems much better.
I see you have the same year and model Monty I do, so, if you do replace the toilet with a front pedal one, I don't know which model it is, the paperwork is at home, but you might have to trim or sand the bottom of the door of the closet right behind it as its a bit higher and rubs slightly.

Ours went like that this past summer and we kept pulling up on the handle till one day we heard a snap and I broke the plastic prong that fits into the pedal,(procrastination eh)!!! Needless to say the Dw wasn't going to continue camping without her own toilet. That part was not available locally so now we have a spare toilet as we changed out the toilet the next day. I would strongly suggest you order a new seal and a spare and change it out before something else breaks.

I use silicone grease. You can probably get it at most hardware stores, Home Depot and Lowes. I saw it today at Ace.
"ACE" SILICONE GREASE *1/2 fl. oz. *For rubber and synthetic "O" rings *No petroleum additives *Waterproof, non-staining, non-toxic, non-flammable *450 deg. F max *90% pure
Product name: "ACE" SILICONE GREASE
I turn my water off, use a disposable glove and put a thin film on the seal and also the ball. It will last much longer than silicone spray.

If it seems too stiff and is not closing the whole way, take off the side cover and there should be a center screw holding every thing on, just loosen that screw a bit and it should close easier. I found out from on line that when that screw is too tight it does not let the valve close the whole way. Mine was doing that and losing all the water, loosened screw and wa-la no more leaking. Still gotta lube it all though....

I finally fixed mine. I tried Pam, Silicone rubber slide lube and the snapping it closed. The snapping it closed was not well accepted during the "wee" hours of the morning!" I totally disassembled the whole unit and found that the black shaft on pedal side of the unit (the shaft that is connected to the half round valve that closes the big hole) was over-sized. This shaft was such a tight fit and was binding and not allowing the valve to close unless it was snapped closed. After much cleaning I removed the two "O" rings and put the shaft in my drill and with a fine sand paper sanded the shaft to a smaller size. I lubed it liberally with Vaseline and now it works so very smooth and no leaks. DW is much happier and sleeps better too.
This was posted in Sept 09 under "Toilet stopper not stopping" along with many other solutions to the problem.
Still working without a hitch 12/12/12
