Fresh water drain

My new to us 2014 3150RL fresh water drain is at the rear of the coach. It looks like a piece of water hose with a plastic screw on cap. Has anybody replaced that with a ball valve or some other type of drain that's easier to use. Maybe use without having To get out tools
HAPPY EASTER TO YOU ALL!!!!

Our rig came with a 1/4 turn valve already installed on the fresh tank drain. I’m not sure it’s that big a thing, as we don’t drain the tank very long often. We full time so we use water from the tank enough to constantly replace with fresh.

My rig came with a valve as well. I have, though, put valves on previous rigs. It a convenience thing

You could run the line on out to the side of the rv and fasten it down and install a cut-off on it . This would make it easier than over extending yourself. As for as tools I hand tighten the drain plug so don't need pliers.

Mine has a plastic cap also. But I have never needed any tools. Just hand tighten and hand remove. Has never leaked or come loose.

This is what I did. Easy to reach and still out of sight.

I did exactly this to all 3 of the units I have owned. Remove whats there/install a 90 and run the line to the campers side and install a valve. The valve I installed has hose treads so I can drain the tank to the outside with a hose while in my pole building.

Replaced ours with a ball valve. No more worrying about misplacing a cap. We also put a ball valve on our low point drain for ice maker on residential fridge.

My new to me 2011 3665 had a leaking plastic drain valve, I replaced it with a cap, hand tight does the trick for me.

Yep pulled mine off bc they leak after a while and put a shark bit Ball/Cock valve on, so much better now and the flow seems to be a little stronger when emptying the tank less restricted they the factory plastic cap

Putting a valve on that allows you to connect to a hose is a big plus when you're sanitizing your tanks.

First time in our recently purchased 2008 Montana. Wanted to sanitize the fresh water tank. Added the recommended gallons of water with the recommended amount of bleach through the non-pressure fill for the fresh water tank. Then using a hose to the non-pressure fill, began filling. Looked for and found a black tube with a plastic fitting that looked like a cap could be screwed to, but no cap. Nothing came out of that tube until well after I expected the tank should be full. Then a small stream started from that tube. Checked panel in RV and tank showed full. Stopped filling and after a while, no flow from that tube. I concluded that the tube was an overflow. Tank still full and nothing coming from that tube. But now it is time to empty and flush the tank and I cannot find anything else that looks like it might be a drain. Any thoughts?

My guess would be that maybe some kind of critter might have built something in the drain tube, IF that cap was left off. You might try CAREFULLY running a piece of wire up there and see if you can break something loose. Maybe blow some air (low pressure) up the drain tube. Sounds like it's just plugged up. Just an idea that you might try!

Tom-- Try looking under the rig about two foot in or halfway in from the edge of the unit on the drivers side. You should see a 1/2" tube hanging down from the belly with a cap on it. If not you may have to loosen the belly in the rear and see if you see a tube there. You do not mention what model Montana you have but I would guess it is there if you just look under the unit behind the rear axle and close to the spare tire.

After 2 days with bleach solution in the tank, that black tube became a clear tube. A gentle nudge with a straightened out wire hanger up the tube and a twist or two started the water flowing. Thanks for the help.

Being anal like I am, I put a pex elbow with a 3' about section of pex to the side of the rig with a plastic valve like a hose bib. I used a big flat washer and a piece of 1" galvanized strap that I had laying around. Bent the strap to create an L for mounting to the skirt. Drilled a couple of hole in the washer and strap, pop rivet together and screwed it onto the skirt for easy reach. I used an existing screw in the skirt, but be careful to make sure it's not just going into the plastic, get a good bite into something substantial. See photo...

Mike, That's very similar to what I described in post #8. I also put some pipe insulation around the pipe to help prevent freezing in cold weather.
