Question spring wet bolt Question

good morning all,

I am wondering if you guys might know if the grease zerk on the rear spring hanger is a screw in zerk or a pressed in zerk on a 2013 Montana 3100rl as three of the others would take grease but not the last one . as we are getting ready to hit the road for a extended trip would like to have all up to par.

thanks for any and all help on this issue !.
Till the next issue,
Bob

Normally they are screw in fittings. If the fitting has a 3/8" wrench fit, it will come out though may be really tight.

A set of wet bolts I installed on our last 5er - out of 12 bolts, at least 8 would not take grease even though they were installed correctly. All new fittings.

I just finished greasing my wet bolts yesterday. I had one that would not take grease. It was the center bolt that the CRE 3000 pivoted on. I jacked up by frame, put floor jacks under axles and removed that bolt. The grease hole was straight down making all the weight of the trailer cover the hole. I put bolt back in with hole pointing up and took grease no problem. Checked again with all jacks removed and still able to grease.
If you decide to remove a wet bolt turn the nut not the bolt. The bolt is not supposed to turn in the shackle.

The hole in the bolt should be at the 3 or 9 o'clock position. Before inserting the bolt use a marker and make a mark on the head of the bolt so when you tighten the nut you will be able to see if the hole is still in the correct alignment.

Sometimes that makes no difference with the lpw quality offshore made hardware now being foisted off on the unsuspecting public

When I grease my bolts, there are always 1-3 that don't take grease. (My street slopes downhill and toward the curb) I think if I just drove it around and reversed the direction they would be ok, but usually I just jack up the axle nearest it.

Did you have to jack on the Leaf spring also to get the bolt to come out?

Don't know if your question is directed toward me or not. If me, the frame has to be jacked up and floor jacks under the axles. All tension has to be removed from the bolt before removal. To remove turn nut and not the bolt. The bolt has a knurled shoulder to prevent the bolt from turning. Once the nut is off the bolt will have to taped with hammer and piece of wood. Don't hit threaded end of bolt with bare hammer if you ever want nut to go back on.

I have a tool called Zerk Zapper. it will force a light oil thru the fitting and clean it out. Then you can usually grease it. I think I bought it on Amazon or at a NAPA store, I can't remember. It is easy to use and usually works.
