Towing the goldwing

When we purchase the 3400, is it possible to pull along our 900lb goldwing? It's such a big part of our lives and would really like to take it along with us to get out and go! Thanks, D

check out the idaho tote, expensive but have been told it works well for a heavy bike.

We haul our's on the back of our truck using a Rampage lift ramp. Here is a link to one of our blog entries with some photos I took while loading it.

I tried a dual swivel wheel trailer but didn't like all the weight on the rear of the 3400 and it had a tendency to sway which I didn't like at all. I still have the trailer and will make someone a great deal on it.

We had a hitch made for our Mountaineer and tow our two quads (1300 lbs) with no problems. Just can't back up like with the Idaho Tote or a Swivel Wheel trailer. Our trailer is way out of warranty so we don't worry about it.

D, Something you should consider is that the hitch from Keystone is rather light weight designed to carry bicycles. Keystone put a limit on them of 200 lbs. They also say anything heavier will "Void the Warranty". We are an '06 and I suspect we don't have much warranty left. Last year I had the folks at MorRyde, in Elkhart, IN, weld a 2 inch receiver hitch in place. I was told it is rated for 3000 lbs towing and a 300 lb tongue weight. I do not plan on maxing that out, I just wanted a hitch to carry two bicycles with and my trailer did not come with a hitch to begin with.

I guess what I am saying is you might be taking a chance with your factory warranty, but if you don't mind that I would suggest you look into a stronger hitch instead of the lightweight thing they supply. So far, we are happy with ours, but have only hauled the bikes from San Antonio, (where we bought them), to San Diego. I would really like to pull a Smart Car, but the turck works fine, albeit a little big, for our daily driver. Many folks say the frame on the '06's is not strong enough to pull a small car?????

You might do a search on this subject, it has been covered in depth. Just MHO, but I would not tow anything behind this 3400...since it voids the warranty, it cannot be very strong.

Check out this link about towing laws. http://www.towingworld.com/articles/TowingLaws.htm

It will answer a lot of questions about towing two trailers.

There is alot of confusion about triple towing. It is towing 3 trailers. that being said you have to do what makes you comfortable. My warranty has been out 4yrs and I have a very good hitch.
