Minneapolis Minnesota, surrounding area

Need some ideas about campgrounds in the area of Minneapolis, or points south towards Waverly Iowa. Tricky part, we need to be there around the 4th of July, UGH, I know, holiday and all that.

Suggestions anyone????

Carol, we stayed at a nice County Park on the south edge of metro Minneapolis. It was Apple Valley at Lebanon Hills Campground. However, I'm not sure I'd want to be in a public park on a holiday weekend. Too noisy! I liked it when weekending/vacationing but now prefer peace and quiet. Anyhow, it was a nice park with nice sized sites, full hookups, etc. No CATV and just a central modem, at that time (last July or August).

Carol ... I think we were able to make a reservation at that park, if that might help. Good luck!

Steve and Vicki

Thanks for the heads up on this campground. Al and I will be making some very serious plans tomorrow AM and will look at this one! A reservation is a must have for us (and the yorks). I figure any campground for the 4th will be full, and noisy. We can always shut the door and hide!

We learned today that the State of Minnesota has a small problem, their budget expires on July 1st and they are already preparing state employees for a possible shut down of the government. I want to get into the Minnesota Historical Society, been waiting for several years to make this trip, so, when I finally get close, they have a LITTLE BIT OF A SITUATION! Figures!

So, gonna try to get out of here, and up there for the last week of June for research. Do you hear panic in my post!

Again, thanks, and if any one else has an idea or some information, send it on! We are all ears!

Cheers Carol

You're welcome, Carol. It's a nice park and they were on top of enforcing the rules so I'd bet quiet time will be enforced there. Also, if I recall, it's about 3 miles from Mall of America, if that helps you locate what's in the area. They have an office that reminded me in every way of a private rv park. Sure hope they don't shut things down on you!

Just wanted to drop a note here,

We made Minneapolis, just hours before the nasty storms hit tonight, we got a lot of rain here, but no wind or anything else nasty! Whew!

Steve and Vicki, this really is a very nice campground. So far, other than the thunder, it has been very quiet and there are a lot of rigs in here.

Thanks again for the heads up on this one, we could not be happier.

Carol

P.S. Last I heard, the state still has not passed it's budget, to hear it, they spent the day fighting over where to have a meeting ABOUT the budget. If not passed within ohhh, 36 hours, give or take, there were be a lot of services closed down. Examples: The state parks (how is that for Happy 4th of July, sorry your reservation is null and void, we are locking up the campgrounds, get out!!) AND, they told us at a Welcome Center, that if they shut down the state, ALL rest areas will be baricaded! The Historical Society told me that their phone would be shut off, please check the web page?? Found that hard to believe, that they would up date the web page, but shut the phone off?? OKKKK, whatever! Glad we are parked in a COUNTY park! They expect to have a full house this weekend, IF the state budget takes a dive. Budget - - Smudget! Entire thing is silly!
