Sealand 210 toilet

This morning the ball gate on our Sea Land toilet stopped opening. I called Dometic and they said they would gladly send a new spring cartridge and/or ball and shaft right out. But we will be heading out on Monday toward Kings Bay Sub Base. After I dug out a rubber glove and hand rotated the ball valve(some fun)I took the mechanism apart and found that the two parallel screws that hold the whole mess together were hand tight. I reassembled the unit and put the screws back in and tightened them up. No easy task since I did not have a stubby screwdriver (soon remedied). The whole thing works again. So if one morning you find that the toilet won't dump just tighten the screws and you may be back in action. Dometic has upgraded the screws on the replacement cartridge and they have more aggressive threads that take as much torque to remove as to install and won't back on their own. I will call them and accept the offer of parts as soon as I get my site number at Kings Bay. Just keep an eye on those screws and make sure they stay tight... Dave

Dave,
You just have to have your hands in "things," don't ya!
And besides that, just screwing things.

Good find, good job. But replace the spring cartridge. It is part of the Sealand recall on the 210. We swapped out the 210 for a 510, 17" high model. Better for my knees. (butt doesn't hit so hard when i fall in)

Dave,
I'm glad I wasn't the only one with my hand in the toilet this week. Hopefully next week will find both of us in better places. Have a great Easter.

Wayne, that MUST be a HUGE bowl. I am getting a new spring cartridge, ball valve and shaft, and seal. May as well replace it all, since we have to let the ball slam shut to get a good seal. They sure are easy to get along with at Dometic. As soon as we get settled into Kings Bay on Monday I will give them a call and let them know what site we are on... Dave

Dave,
You are SUPPOSED to let the ball slam shut. It's in the manual

I know it's difficult to read and understand, so if you need a translation in Navy terms, let me know and I can most likely put it into gutter words you would understand.

Dave,
I'm really serious about letting the ball slam shut.

Look on page 2, Item #3 in the Manual

Edited: Not to confuse you, but "snap back," is the same meaning as "slam back."

Point taken Wayne, since sliding my foot off the pedal and letting it snap shut seemed to result in the ball valve disconnecting I just thought it was a bit harsh treatment for the system. But now that I got the screws tightened and it is all tight for now we will continue to snap it shut till something else breaks. I am however going to have Dometic send out the aforementioned parts, it never hurts to have them when needed... Dave

Dave, you devil! You just want to get your hands in the potty again!

Semper Fi!

p.s., don't forget to let it "slam" also.
