Removing Wall Border

My wife is considering removing and replacing the border on our Montana. Does anyone have any experience or advice on doing this?

No experience with it, but I imagine some careful use of a heat gun would help. I think the adhesive is a non-drying, self stick type.

Yep, and if the unit is not pretty new, well, good luck and be prepared to replace with something that is a tad wider.

Our unit was several years old, the border came off, but, the adhesive, well, I like to say, it would hold a 747 together! Sticky does not describe it.

There is one solvant that will take it off, gasoline does not work, goobegone did not work, nothing I had in my arsenal worked. One gal, from Florida, who we have not heard from in ages, found some Orange something or other that took off the glue. She could not find it locally, but, did manage to get some as a gift I believe, from the manufacturer. I wish I had recorded the name, I did not.

I wanted to replace with something else, so, that was not an issue, sadly, the border choice was 1/4 inch less wide, and that left sticky stuff on the wall. It might have been electrically charged too, as it seemed to attract any loose hair (mine is very long) and ewwwwwwwwww, it was nasty.

In all my years of fussing with crafts and house remodeling, and wallpaper and all that kind of fun stuff, NEVER, have I had the experience I did with that glue.

BLECH!!

There is a glue remover that is orange based and can usually be found in a medical supply store. That's right, it is used to remove adhesive left from electrodes and similar glued on devices used on the body. I don't remember the name but it works great, just ask for adhesive remover....This should do the trick...

There was quite a discussion on this topic in 2005. Here it is. (Hope this works, I've never tried this before)
