Slide bolts replaced

Well, when the frame broke in Prudhoe Bay it ripped the bolts attaching the outside slide wall through the floor. Bob noticed the flexing in Fairbanks, but thought he could fix it, but didn't have the right tools and thought we could make it home before it became a big problem. The flex kept getting worse and the bolts looser and looser, so we sat in Whitehorse for six days over the labor day holiday waiting our turn. Fireweed RV Repair got in touch with Team Montana about the problem and got their recommendation for a fix, which was to remove the bolts, put a metal bar under the carpet, redrill the holes and replace the 5 bolts. Well, Fireweed went them one better and used an L shaped piece of aluminum and added 4 additional bolts. The slide works better than it ever has. If we keep this up we'll have rebuilt the rig before we're through!!

In December 2004, our slide mechanism broke loose from the floor of the living room slideout, pulling the bolts through the floor. Beaudry RV in Tucson, AZ did a magnificent job of repairing, telling me that it wouldn't happen again. It hasn't. Sounds like they did almost the same thing that Fireweed did for Bob & Pam. Makes one wonder why that can't be done at the factory.

I posted not long ago that we noted those bolts were coming loose. They were loose to where you coud turn them by hand. This may be a cause for the bolts ripping through the floor. The ''how come..question is on my ask Montana list for the fall rally.
