Mud Dabber screen for furnace vent
The instructions tell you not to use a screen over the furnace vent when using the furnace. It is cold enough to use the furnace at night and warm enough in the daytime for bugs to be out. Do you use one when the furnace is in operation?

I do not use any screens on my furnace vent. The coach goes to the lake from April-October and have not had any trouble with bugs. Now that I said that I guess I better go knock on wood and buy a screen. =)

Funny but I just installed a pair yesterday.
and as the temps are down in the 40's last night we did run the furnace. As you can see there is no restriction what so ever. They are stainless steel and the heat had no effect on them.
2 of my neighbors have them and swear by them.

Yes always as above otherwise hornets love to nest in there.Use them on all the outside vents.

Don-
Since you leave your trailer in this part of Texas year round the screens are essential. This time of year the dirt-dabbers are inactive, but a couple months from now they will be busy little bugs. I leave my screens in place year round. They are stainless steel, the heat does not effect them and they are designed for a non restrictive flow.

The furnace exhaust on ours has a larger, one piece screen over it, and we have not seen any problems when using the furnace, and I used it quite a bit last month on our last trip of the season.

There are also screens for Water Heaters and I even made a screen for the refrigerator vent.
Many of the RV stores sell the Dauber screens as well as Camping World. You can also find them available on the Internet. Go to Google.com and search "Mud Dauber Screens" or click here... Google "Mud Dauber Screens"

I've had them on every fifthwheel we've owned for the last ten years. Never a single problem. There is no significant restriction in airflow, as can be seen in Glenn's photo. We spend a lot of time where mud daubers live and they love propane. Let them in and they'll definitely foul up the works. And I understand it's a lot of work and/or expensive to get their nests out of there so you can use the furnace.
We've been in extended subfreezing temperatures with the furnace running a lot the past three winters and never a problem with the furnace.
SGF, they're available at RV dealers, camping world, etc. They're not expensive. There are different styles for different furnace exhaust ports so take a look before you go buy them. Most Montanas take the ones like Glenn has, including ours. J.D., I'm surprised yours has a rectangular one since you have the same year and model as ours. Maybe the first owner adapted it from his own tradein. In any case, if it works...

Thank you for the replies. I used my screen in November and December, then decided I should take it off. It will go back on tomorrow.

Steve, it is possible that the first owner modified the screen, but it works well, so like you said…
