We're back from South Dakota
Oh, where to start.
On our way to Nebraska for our family reunion, we stopped in Elkhart, Indiana to camp. Found out that they make Trailair hitches there and bought one. Another camper had one and told me that they make them about 20 miles from our campground. When we left to go to Illinois, we stopped by the manufacturer and had one installed. We told them the name of the person who referred us and they sent him a check for $50 and we got $50 off our price, a win-win situation. Installation was free. After a little trail and error, we found the right pressure for the air bag and it does smooth out the ride considerably. We had some high winds at our In. campground, so much so, that Donna wanted to pull-in the slides. We left them out and everything was fine anyway. Lots of tree limbs down the next day, however.
After our stay in Ill. we went to the reunion. It was held on a farm and we set-up right there with water and electric. We had a great time with the 68 members that came to the reunion.
About 60 miles into South Dakota we stopped at a rest stop to empty our holding tanks and the truck would not start. Fortunately, we had emergency roadside assistance from Good Sam and the tow truck towed both the truck and camper into Sioux Falls for repair (quite a sight to behold). It turned out to be the fuel pump. I don't know if it was from the first time use of the 10% ethanol gas or it was just time for it to go. We stay in Mitchell SD for a couple of days to change our driver's licenses over to SD and to see the sights. Then we went on to Rapid City and took a bus tour to see Mt Rushmore, Crazy Horse, and The Needles Hwy. Lake Sylvan and some other points of interest. It ended with a dinner and a show. Well worth the cost.
On our trip home we stopped in Junction City, Kansas and toured the New Horizon factory. It is clear why they have the four-star rating from RV Consumer group. Quality control is unsurpassed along with the workmanship and customer input. This will be our next fifth wheel.
Our trip for the rest of the journey was uneventful (this is a good thing). This past week we have been trying to catch-up on things around the house and getting it ready to sell.
That was the Reader Digest condensed version of our three-week trip. Can't wait to get out on the road fulltime without being pressured to be somewhere else on a deadline.
