New mattress—suggestions?

Marsha is convinced that the couple from whom we bought our Montana switched out the queen size mattress in it from the Winnebago they had bought to replace the 5er as ours does not feel as firm as any of those she has tried in new Montanas we have looked at.

Hence, she wanted me to ask if any of you have “upgraded” or replaced the mattress in your Montana, and, if so, how did you go about doing it? She is concerned that ones for stick homes will be too long. Any advice would be appreciated!

Check with your local mattress stores as you can order custom built mattresses.

JD-
Many have done lots of things to either convert or upgrade the mattress in the Montana, each for personal reasons. We could not sleep what came with the trailer. Ours is a king and the corners are rounded for the slide to fit when it is in. I don't think a standard king would have been a suitable replacement.

We opted to order a 4" memory foam topper from overstock.com. When it came in we allowed it regain its normal size by letting it set for a couple days. I trimmed the rounded corners with an electric knife and it now conforms to the existing mattress. I can't begin to describe how much better it sleeps. It is more comfortable than what we have in the stick house.

We appreciate our "sleep by number" mattress and each of us sets our desired firmness which sometimes changes a bit depending upon daily activities. We found that the best price was at Camping World.

We replaced the 4" mattress with a Simmons Queen pillow top. It is a couple inches longer but just hangs over the end of the plywood base and just touches the dresser when the slide is closed. Has not been a problem. Of course it is higher than the factory one but that seems to work better also. We love it!

Send a message via MSN to Parrothead
We replaced ours with a BeautyRest made special (shorter). Didn't cost anymore than a regular one.
Happy trails....................

I thought about replacing my matress, but decided to buy a posture pedic matress topper memory foam by Sealy. It is 2" thick and revolutionizes my bed. Man, I love it and usually the first thing I say to my girlfriend in the mornings is "I am so comfortable. I'm glad we got the mattress pad."

the Sealy posturepedic is about $200, but I got it for 60% off the price at Foley's. Usually big department stores have major sales on bedding. I would wait until a great sale and get a high quality mattress pad.

We did the same thing as Farmer Don, replacing ours with a Simmons Beautyrest HI-LOFT pillow top mattress. Absolutely the BEST improvement we have made to our Monty so far. We also lowered the bed box by 4" to offset the extra tall mattress. Ours closes in snug to the dresser with the slide in but that doesn't pose any problem.

We replaced our mattress with a custom made one from Monarch Mattress here in Windsor Ont. It was a short queen 60x74. They built it right here at the factory in Windsor and we had it in 2 days. $475 (Can.) Its a European pillow top and we love it sooooo much I changed my stick house to the same model only in King. Now sleeping in the 5th or house is the same.

The Montana OEM Mattress is a standard 60X80 at least in the 3400. To us the OEM mattress was feeble and we gave it away.

We replaced ours with a sleep comfort. I like my matress harder than does Phyhllis, so this is working really well for us with my very bad back and tenedency to log roll all night. She doesn't even feel it.

We added the 4" memory foam from Overstock too. Just cut it to size with the rounded corners on our king size with an electric knife. My wife likes it better now than the sleep number we have at home.
