Timbren load level

My next door neighbor was asking for advice on Timbren's product. Thought I would ask here. We know air bags are better but way more expensive.

I have used Timbrens, Firestone airbags, and currently AirLift airbags. The Timbrens were marginally "OK", the Firestones failed me, and the AirLifts are just fine. I do not need the bags for increased carrying capacity, just wanted to improve ride a little and it works. Air bags don't have to cost a lot more than Timbrens if you are capable of installing them yourself and don't feel the need for onboard air supply. I have the onboard air but it is not necessary.

BTW, I am originally from Pickens county.

I used them on my past two F250's and they work great. They minimize the squat and the trampoline effect while having no adverse impact (rough ride) when truck is not loaded. I don't need anything on my current 3500 dodge.

Ive had timbrens and air bags, I prefer the timbrens, don't need to air them up and the ride is the same as stock when not towing the Monte.

Timbrens on two trucks, if they are installed right, they do a fine job of removing squat, they never really increase your load carrying capacity.

Neither bags nor Timbrens increase load carrying capacity, only reduce squat that is normally a result of springs weakening over time.

Timbrens on two trucks. As others have already said "Install them right and no adverse affect on the ride." Zero maintenance and much cheaper than airbags.

Whatever you are told, and like others have mentioned, air bags, Timbrens or anything other suspension assist does NOT increase the weight carrying ability. They only help make the ride more comfortable, prevent the discomfort of too much squat and thereby also improve your headlight aim when nightdriving and your load has not turned your low beams into high beams when under tow or load.

I use Firestone airbags and the only problem I had with them is one of the valves to inflate the air failed with the first two years of ownership. A phone call to the company and they sent me TWO replacements. One to replace the failed valve and an extra in case of a future failure. Many years later and no more failures.

I had an onboard controller installed so that I can inflate/deflate the air bags from the driver's seat. I got them within the first year of buying my truck back in 2006. They are still working fine even after that first failure. I went with Firestone because I couldn't find Air Lift that fit (according to Camping World) and I wanted the air bag inflation flexibility I didn't think I would get with a Timbrens type of system.

Hi neighbor.
We know you can't increase GVW rating of truck by adding anything.
Thanks for replies.

Just adding my 2 cents, but I put firestone air bags on our F-250. It let's me level the 5er. I only have to run about 40 PSI to level up. I keep 5-10 PSI in them when not pulling. I think they work great.

Did the install myself - about 3 hrs. I did cut off most of the bump bar from the hard rubber overload bumpers. Made the install much easier.

Just my 2 cents.

"We know you can't increase GVW of truck by adding anything"

FYI Psomers, there ARE ways to increase your weight capacity depending on the truck, but Timbrens or air bags are not one of the ways. It is so specific, I won't say any more than that.

For example, I was able to add hardware, wheels and tires to my truck to upgrade from an F250 to an F350 for my 2006. The only thing I didn't do is recertify my truck, therefore in my state it is legal for personal use. When I towed trailers for a living I had to stay within the F250 weight limits.
