Got a Little Wet!
I replaced the anode in the water heater today. The Monty had been in storage for about 4 weeks --so I expected the water to be cold. So, after unscrewing the anode a few turns, it shot out due to the water pressure in the tank. I got a nice cold shower to cool me off in South Texas--no damage but a surprise! So next time--open a faucet in the Monty to relieve the pressure! A suggestion of other do-it-yourselfers.

Yep. I guess we all get to do it at least once. First time I tried it, I ended up all wet and covered with the crystalized mineral deposits from the bottom of the tank all over my jeans and shoes.
Lifting the pressure relief valve is now the first thing I do.

Did the same thing after sanitizing the system, was totally soaked with the smell of bleach ( Chlorine)!! Would have been so simple to lift that relief valve! Ellis

The relief valve is in front of me and I did not think about it! Thanks for the notes and I feel like a I joined a select group of MOCers who have gotten a little wet!

Ahh -- but as you said, it did feel good in that hot sun..
Been there, done that, as they say.....
(Well, just re-read your original post -- guess you didn't quite say that )

And make sure the hot water is NOT on when you open the relief valve. When I get home from a trip after being disconnected and the pump is not on, I will open the relief valve. I heard it's good for the pipes and water heater no to store under constant pressure. Seems to make sense, so I do it. It's on the list for "long-term storage".
