Shackles

This topic was prominent about 1-1/2 or 2 years ago. It was well discussed and ultimately Keystone changed the axles they use on the newer models. I have the older Al-Ko axles. Some of you replaced the shackles, bushings, and the shackle bolts with Dexter replacement kits with zerts in the bolts.

If someone could come up with a dexter part number used for replacing Al-Ko shackles, I would be very interested. I had no luck with search engine. Neither did I find the information needed on the Dexter site.

You can call Dexter and they will help you with the correct parts. You will need to measure the distance between the bolt holes in the equalizer so they will know the part number.
I changed mine but can not remember the number.
You can check Hamrads photos and find some help.

Stiles: Ditto on the above. Measure the bolt hole distance and call Dexter. They sent me the kit and I had the work done at a trailer shop. Only took a couple of hours to do it, as I recall.

I think the kit # mentioned above was correct, but I'm not sure. I found the kit on the web site but had to have the correct bolt hole distance spec to order it, as I recall.

Same here Stiles, I got help from Hamrad and had to call Dexter to get the right parts. Ask for the "wet bolt" kit to get the zerks.

As you can see, I am new to the forum. I own a 2001 unit with the old axles. Can you tell me what the problems were and why people were switching to the Dexter axles?
