Poor Man's Cookies (100 year-old recipe)

5 C. sifted flour
1 C. lard
1 tsp. soda dissolved in buttermilk
2 C. light brown sugar
1 C. buttermilk
1 C. walnuts crushed

Put flour in large mixing bowl and add all the ingredients. Work like pie dough with finger tips or pastry blender. Roll out 1/4-inch thick and cut with cookie cutter. Put on greased sheet bake 10 to 15 minutes, or until brown at 350 degrees.

Ingredients may be cut in half for smaller amount of cookies.
