Cleaning awning

What is the best & easiest way to clean the awning? I did it once top & bottom with my RV brush.

That's how we do it. Bucket, soapy water and brush. Sometimes add a dash of bleach if there is any mildew on it.

I put on my rain coat, a hat, and boots, then pressure wash the underside. Take off the rain coat and pressure wash the top side, let dry and roll it back up.

We soap up the top with lots and lots of soapy water ...roll it up and let it sit for 15-20 minutes..take it back out and rinse both sides are nicely clean.

Another Great Lakes Region rally seminar tidbit.
This one from Dicor, the distrubutor of not just our roofing but our awnings as well.

Wash the outside of the awning with soap and water, Dawn dish washing was mentioned. BUT "Do not rinse" instead roll the awning up and let it sit. Later put the awning down and rinse.

Afew years ago my husband fell off the very wet and soapy ladder while washing the awning. He injured his shoulder and it has never fully come back so I just want to emphasize the importance of being CAREFUL when working on a ladder around soapy water.

Thanks to all for the replies, next time I'm going to try the soaping it up and roll it up and rinse. Thanks to all.

Thanks, Ginny. I think I'll avoid the ladder when doing the awning. I'll just do the underside first with a telescoping brush, then drop the front of the awning and do the top side. Then roll it all up as noted. Ours desperately needs cleaning but this park wants five bucks to let you clean anything and I'm standing on principle. I'll wait for a chance to clean it without paying.

Another way if you don't want to get soaked and you need to use a bleach mixture to get mildew off is as follows. Pull the awning out about 1-2 feet wash the underside then the top side pull out another 2-3 feet do the same and so forth till you get it completely washed that way your always out from under the part getting washed less mesh on you.

Soap, bleach, a stiff brush on a LONG handle, and tons of patience.

Don't use a power washer! Use the wrong tip and it will blast a hole right through the material. Believe me, I know it will. (The new on looked real nice for a couple of seasons.....)
