St Paul to Louisville

I will be going from St Paul to Louisville next Saturday and would like to avoid Chicago. What do you think would be the best route?

How about I-94 out of St. Paul southeast to I-39 south to bypass Chicago down to I-74 East (actually southeastly) to I-65 south to Louisville? This is less than a 750 mile trip.

This avoids Chicago but I-74 does skirt the southwest outside part of Indianapolis. I wouldn't want to drive Chicago either, but Indianapolis is not as bad.

I'm assuming you meant Louisville, KY. Will this work?

That is exactly the route we take. You only have one small toll fee this way and is very easy to get around. We usually make it to the Wisconsin Dells area the first day. There are a lot of nice campgrounds in that area to spend the night and maybe even an extra day.

Great route and remember you will be traveling on Saturday so the traffic won't be all that bad.

Just as info, I465 from I74 south to I70 on the west side of Indy is under major construction with lane restrictions and reduced traffic flow so may be slow going for a few miles.

Mike, You will be going within 8 miles of me on your way to Ky. We live east of I65 at US-50 about 6 miles then north 2 miles out in the country. Have a safe trip. We did the I-465/I-74 route the last week of April on our way out to Montana. Very doable, just a short distance, Just take easy as traffic will let you. Shouldn't be bad on a sunday. Did return trip on a friday at even. rush hour, no real problem. Better than Denver at rush hour.
