Large dogs

We have not camped with our dogs except for a few weekends. I would like to know if anyone else has dogs as large as ours and how do you manage with them on long stays. We will be considering spending this winter in the south and not sure how much trouble it will be with our two. The bigger of the two is around 32" tall and 140lbs and the other is over 100lbs. We are looking for camp grounds with pet parks.

Rodger and Brenda,
Those are certainly two large dogs. But we see folks with big dogs all the time. Other than just the size of them and the associated "scooping" you really should not have any problems. At least not more than anyone else with dogs large or small. Some CGs do have size limitations but this is usually listed in the "book". If not discussed in the book then ask when you call for reservations. Breed can be a major problem but I've never seen either one of those breeds on a prohibited list.

We are going to a park in the San Jose, CA area after our Northern CA and Southern OR trip that has size limits and number limits as well. We have two smallish dogs. One weighs about 12# and one about 20#. Twenty pounds is the limit the park has set. Hope they never weigh the bigger guy! He pushes the limit if we overfeed him.

Good luck.

Hi Rodger and Brenda - We traveled this past winter with our Greyhound for the first time throughout the Southwest. Some parks ban dogs of "aggressive" breeds but most allow dogs. Some campgrounds have dog runs and this site tells where there are dog parks. We found the site http://www.dogparkusa.com/ to be very useful. Probably the best one we have found, so far, was a city run park in Casa Grande, AZ. Enjoy your journey - Jim and Carol

We travel with a Newfoundland and a Mastiff mix both big dogs and really haven't had to many problems other then Overton, NV. Only one rv park and they didn't want our dogs so we camped on BLM land. I didn't know that they have a web page for dogparkusa.com I'm going to check out.
