Kat wants a cat. To those who have one, what have you done for a litter box and how is it working?

Our cat is typically kept in the crate in the rig. The crate was large enough to enable me to construct a carpet covered resting platform on the back two thirds of the crate. We shopped around and found a tupperware-type tub that is the same width as the crate. This serves as the cat's litter box and is a slightly smaller size than the platform above it. The cat is allowed to roam freely only when we are in the rig. The crate stays in the bedroom (3750 is large enough thank goodness). We have been looking at a furniture type crate to provide a cabinet type look and allow us to use it as an end table in the bedroom. Here is a link to the newer crate that we are interested in:

This might not be the best solution but we use one of those large storage tubs from Walmart and place it in the washer/dryer closet. It has higher sides than a regular cat box because BOTH of our cats are rather large (15 & 20 pounds). The draw back is that we have to prop the door open with a tension rod so that they have "immediate" access to the box . The other thing that we find absolutely vital is to use the Tidy Cat Small Spaces litter for good odor control and then clean the box out as soon as it is used. Then we put the "waste" in a zip-lock bag cuz the smell seems to penetrate the regular Wal Mart or Target plastic bags and place the bag in a metal can with a foot-operated lid (stored outside).
Funny story about when we first started RVing with the cats. We put them in the Monty after the slides were in then traveled down the road a couple hundred miles. Got to our campsite and ready to put the slides out but, NO CATS! They found their way behind the bedroom slide and underneath the bed. We had to remove the plywood covering the bed box under the mattress in order to get them out. Which led to a new procedure when traveling. Oh yea! It's an adventure alright

We have 2 cats and it sounds weird but one of the reasons we liked the 3402rl is because they have the big washer /dryer closet next to the entry way door and we never wanted a washer /dryer so it is a great place for the cat box, we did NOT want the litter box anywhere near our bedroom even though we clean it every day all the other Rigs we looked at it was hard to find a place for one so this works great for us and never smell the litter box(unless they REALLY droppped a Bomb in there

I know you asked about liter box but I am going to give you a heads up. If you have a lever type handle on galley sink make sure you have a plan while away if your cat roams free in the trailer like ours does. Ours found a way to turn the water on while we were away and ended up filling the gray tank, then the sink, and you you guessed it, the trailer too. $4000.00 damage to get it repaired. We now leave the galley gray tank lever open and let it drain thru along with turning the water off if we are going to be gone for any length of time.

In our rig we placed the litter box in the washer/dryer closet. I took off the original door, replaced it with a cheep one from Lowe's, stained it to match, and cut a key-hole door in the bottom. The setup gives our cats free access and contains the odors.

We did keep the original door in case we ever install a washer and dryer.

We use the W/D area for the W/D. Cat craps in the litter box we keep in bathroom. Gave up on training her to use the stool.

The wife found a couple of small cabinets that had openings in the doors on them. We use one for litter the other for food. The opening allows the cats to go in/out. The door for access. The cabinet keeps the dog out and hides it all from view. Both cabinets are under the dinning room table. We had removed 3 of the original 5 chairs since we only need 2 in the trailer. It gives us more room.

Some where on my to do list is to remove the OEM Dinning room table and build a cabinet with 3 compartments litter/food/storage then get a counter top to match the kitchen counter top. When seated at the new table/cabinet you will be looking at the window instead of at each other.

We have three large cats so our situation is different. Last fall some folks parked next to us, however with just one cat and they had an end table like one that would go in a S&B next to the bed and hold sox or whatever. They cut a large round hole in the side an had the litter box in the drawer. The cat went in and out the hole to do her business and they just opened the drawer to empty it.

Check out www.kittywalk.com for outdoor enclosures. We trav elled with our 17 year old guy and he loved it outside. We bought a new one here so he sits outside most of the day and watches the world go by. Sort of like the rocking chair thing for us.
