FURLOUGHED

This isn't a political posting...it's a fact. I was furloughed today and placed in a non-pay status. We don't know for how long.
Found out that anyone camping on federal lands will be told to leave.

Yeah, been reading about the shutdowns. It is a shame the children in Washington can't play together.

My wife was also furloughed today and placed in a non-pay status. I am still working because as a firefighter I am expected to be there, but without pay until this is all settled. Then they kick me to the curb and retire me at the end of the month because I will reach the mandatory age limit for a firefighter of 57 year of age.

No end to the sucky deals resulting from some childish shortsightedness. Sorry it happened to all of you!

the children are playing games but you'll end up getting back pay i'm sure of that.

and for fire5er enjoy retirement, that is one of the neat things about working for the government, early retirement.

I'm not allowed to work. Not likely any pay for not working will be forthcoming.
The good news is that my "Honey-Do" list will get shorter.

Heard this morning that all reserve training this weekend, to include National Guard was canceled. A bunch of folks at Wright Patterson were upset

The ones that get paid will be the essential personnel who stay behind after the "non-essential" workers are furloughed. They get "IOU's" that are paid when a budget is finally passed. The "non-essential" workers get diddly squat.
That's how it's been explained to me... just so you know.

I am thankful to be an essential government employee who will at some point get paid. My biggest aggravation is that during the furlough no vacation time can be taken, thus my long awaited trip to Topsail Hill in mid-October is probably going to be cancelled. I will wait until the last minute but will post when I cancel if any of my MOC brothers are interested in booking from 10/11 through 10/19.

It's so wrong that the folks in congress are still getting paid and all their benefits.

Yep they do and here's why.

It is — by the Constitution.

The 27th Amendment to the Constitution restricts any Congress from changing its own pay. The measure was proposed in the first days of the Republic but was not ratified until 1992, after a grass-roots movement promoted the idea and the necessary number of state legislatures approved it.

While many may have wanted to restrain Congress from increasing its pay, the amendment also blocks Congress from freezing or cutting its compensation.

The result? Congress gets paid no matter what. Gabbard is not the only member surprised.

“I don’t even know whether it stops or not,” Rep. John Fleming, R-Louisiana, said when asked about his pay during a shutdown.

When told that the Constitution mandates congressional paychecks stay as-is, Fleming responded that he hadn’t thought through what he would do yet but would likely donate his pay during a shutdown to charity

It is doubtful that members of Congress will continue to get there health and other benefits if the Government defaults .While their pay, like it or not, is determined by the 27th amendment of the constitution their benefits, Health, retirement , etc are the same as any Federal Employee and are appropriated funds. Pay and benefits on members of Congress are widely miss understood but can be easily looked up.
