Profile updates

Have you as a MOC member checked your profile since you originated it? Jan Kelpe and I sent out emails and PMs 9when no email addresses were available) to the MOC members in the Central Plains area. I myself received approximately 50 rejections from the internet providers that you as a member gave the MOC forum as your email addresses. I don't know the number that Jan got back! On my part, these were mainly rejections because of the emails were blocked or the email address was no longer a good address. Why would you give an email address if you know it is blocked Please update your profiles! Thank you!

I am in full agreement too. I have run into this same situation with the RV park I coordinate. Those addresses are worse than worthless, but time and space wasters.

Unfortunately, some email providers are currently blocking email which originates from the MOC (the perceived source of email when you use the provided "E-mail a Member" function). The ISPs which consider MOC email to be SPAM and rejected immediately are:

SBCGlobal.net and ATT.net (basically the same providers)

If a member with one of these addresses is sent an email it is rejected and returned to the originator (not the MOC but the email address of the sender from their Profile) with a message to the effect:

Could not deliver message to the following recipient(s):

Failed Recipient: xxxxxxx@att.net
Reason: Remote host said: 521 DNSRBL: Blocked for abuse. See http://att.net/blocks

The MOC is working with our service provider and ATT/SBCGlobal to remove this blockage of email originating from the forum. We hope to have this corrected soon. In the meantime, members can use the PM function to contact other members or email them directly from their personal email accounts.

Rondo's suggestion to check your Profile is a good one as many members have changed email addresses since they joined.

I had about 30 rejections, the messages on all of them were undeliverable, or address not valid.

I guess that explains why we did not receive information as our email is through AT&T. what it doesn't explain is why last year we didn't have a problem. Is there anything I can do to remove the block?

That depends on your email program. In Outlook you can go in and list approved email addresses, I believe. You may want to do a search on google for your email program and find out how to unblock a range of addresses.

The problem started after the MOC provider moved the forum to a new set of servers with new IP addresses. The previous owner of those addresses had used them to do something that caused AT&T to consider them a source of SPAM. Consequently, email originating there is blocked.

About the only thing you can do is send an email from the MOC to your member name. The reject notice should go to your personal address (even though it is AT&T). Then you can follow the instruction in the rejection notice to request unblocking. Eventually it comes down to the MOC provider working with AT&T to satisfy them we are a different organization and the settings on our email server won't allow SPAM from here.

Rondo is a retired mail carrier and proud of it! We both started as mailcarriers and he would say I took a wrong turn.

However, he's got a quality trained, embedded in him to update. Ron...tks for checking everyone's 3982's!!! errr...pink cards.

Good post Bud!
