Kitchen Slide Out Issue

First time out the gate and when we opened the kitchen slide out it tore off the lower cabinet door.

Took to the dealership for warranty repair and it was done in about 3 days. I thought great!!!

However once I got inside I changed my impression. The corner of the slide next to fridge was reattached(about 30 staples) and the door was re-attached( offset from the other 2 and at a slant) the area that had been ripped out was filled with a different color wood filler. They didn't bother to sand it down any from their filler job and left plenty om the flooring to dry.

So after speaking to them they said I can bring it back to let them try again.

Though I want them to be fix it right I have a hesitation about letting someone half-ass the repair again. I could have done it myself however that's not really the point is it.

On top of that I found out from 1 of the salesmen that this happened to this trailer once before and had to be fixed.

Thanks American Family RV.

Not sure I'd let them have another shot at it and if it's happened before I'd find a way to make sure that door stays shut. On those doors that we can we've used velcro straps to hold them shut and on others we've added extra magnetic catches. Magnetic catches come in at least two strengths I use the more expensive stronger ones.

seems like on a majority of floorplans there is a door or two that can get caught by the slide if opened during travel. In your shoes, I would redo the fix myself. For me, like my boat, fixing and maintaining is part of the fun. Have not met anybody yet at a dealership that cares as much as we do about our rigs. Good your door itself was not broken.

As Dick stated, using Velcro or additional magnetic catches works the best for holding any doors closed during travel. I also use the bungee cords with the ball on the end that you put on tarps for attaching bungees or whatever to keep the tarp tight. The best thing is to check all cabinet doors and the floor before putting the slides out or pulling them in. I've seen damage done to cabinets and floors both when retracting slides also.

Also can you tell us who the dealer is that did a "patch" job instead of doing the correct fix. This comes in handy when repair is needed when on the road while traveling across our great nation.

With our floor plan, 3 cabinets that have double doors, get zip ties while traveling.

With our 3440rl YOU must check if the kitchen cabinet drawers are secure BEFORE you open the kitchen slider

I hate to admit it but I too have done the same thing with kitchen slide of our 3791RD. I knew this could be a problem on or previous RV and failed to pay due attention when I opened the slides.. No that said, I would never, and mean never, take it back to the dealer to have them repair it. The DW didn't seemed to concerned about the ripped off door as she knew I could fix it. By the time she got home that day she couldn't even tell it had been torn off. One must be a magician when owning an RV. I now run a strap through all the door handles to keep them closed during travel.

I always check the slides before they are opened. I chech to see if any thing is behind them and if any doors have opened.
