WATER PUMP KAPUT...SHURFLO COMES THRU

While in Quartzsite this year our water pump failed. Nothing worse than being dry camped and having the water pump go out. Okay, there are probably worse things, but I couldn't think of any that morning. Fortunately for us Gambler's RV supply in Quartzsite was opened and I was able to get a pump to get us through the rest of our trip.

Anyway, I had replaced the stock pump with a Shurflo Extreme Series Smart Sensor 5.7 pump about a year ago. It came with a 3 year warranty. I called Shurflo last week and explained what happened and with no questions asked they told me to take it to any Camping World store to get it replaced. I installed the replacement yesterday and now I will have a spare that I will be carrying around and probably never need. It is always a pleasure dealing with a company that stands behind their product and provides great customer service when needed.

Just though I would pass my experience along.

Jack

Just had a Shurflo Extreme Series Smart Sensor 5.7 pump installed our 2005 3400 RL in April. It lasted 8 days then blew a 15 amp fuse and would not restart. It was humid and in the mid 90s. Pump was very hot to the touch, so I thought the thermal overload switch had cut out. But, even after an evening of cooling off it did not restart the next morning. Shurflo asked me to send them the sticker/label off the pump and they would replace it with a new model 4048-153-E75 with 4.0Gmp flow rate with 4 pumping chambers. The new pump incorporates a mechanical bypass, eliminating the need for the electronic microprocessor that is in the Smart Sensor 5.7. So I assume he believed it would be a better pump for our coach. Great response from Shurflo. They back their products. Now have to decide if I can install it myself or take it to the dealer who installed the 5.7 and have him check to see if there is some other cause for the pump failure, like a plugged strainer or something. Don't want something else to mess up a new pump.

Capt. Dave,
Believe it or not we had the second SHURFLO 5.7 fail in December 2011. Sent the sticker off that pump to the manufacturer and they sent me another (3rd) new one. From your post and others I have read here and other forums, sounds like the problem is with the micro-processor. If this one fails, hopefully they will replace it with one like the new one you have coming. I am still carrying my spare from Quartzsite around with me just in case though.
