No more burned food in the oven

After reading all these messages and doing some research, we went to Lowe's yesterday to buy a terra cotta tile to put in the bottom of the oven. The only tiles that our Lowe's had were 12 in x 12 in and 1 -7/8 in thick and very heavy. They were willing to cut two sides down to fit the recess but almost 2 inches thick? Was anyone able to find something not as thick? If so where? For those of you that are using pizza stones - were you able to find one that fit nicely into the recess or did you cut them down? Does it have to fit exactly into the recess or can they sit on the bottom as long as long as it does not cover the holes?

If you look at our picture at the beginning of this thread, you will see that our tile sits above the recess. We like that because we can take the oven rack out and sit large pans directly on the tile. It means that the pan is above the holes on the oven floor. Like you, we don't want to cover those holes. We also, like others, used a pizza stone until it broke. The pizza stone worked great, but tile was a cheaper replacement for us and does the trick.

The same discussion on here about 3 years ago, got us to purchase the tile at Lowes that cost less than $2, and fit perfectly in our oven. The tile is now broken, but we can't see that it works any differently.
