Tuners (Gadgets)??????
Well for what its worth, I have never owned a Gadget to get more HP. I only drive GM trucks and the last 5 have been Duramax/Allison 2500HD's,3500HD's and 4500HD's all have had great HP and Torq. I just don't trust them, a $15,000 dollar engine being run by a $500.00 dollar tuner??? I guess with some of the older model Trucks (Gas) types you might have a need for the tuner. But with the Duramax I just don't see the need?? I can't speak for the Fords and Dodges. I do know about the Cummings in the Class 8 type Trucks and it always had plenty of Torq and HP. Good Luck with your decision. GBY...

My 6.4L has all the power and torque we need to tow the 3400 not to mention the warranty issue.

I feel sure my age is one of the variables in me not having a programmer on the Duramax. Add that to some of the input I have had from some people I know that worked for dealers; they see more engine problems when running the tuners. And this was a dealer that really didn't seem to care if you ran a tuner. Like you said, I find it has plenty of power to do what I need.

On my old gasser, I had an EXCAL that gave me 4 options; 1)Stock, 2) 89 Octane, 3) 89 Octane and towing, and 4) 93 Octane. Got better performance and mileage with options 2 and 3. I aksed the owner of the local specialty truck detail shop about tuners. He swears by them and told me Dodges diesels will get a min of 7 MPH with one. He recommended Diablo. I don't have one and have put other mods (Tire pressure monitoring system, back-up camera, etc) much higher on my priority list.
