we'll be using a swim noodle to hold open - liked the curtain tension rod idea

I just lay a small diameter dowel rod in the track as a safety. I also put a zip tie on the rod to facilitate removal.

We had the same issue with living room window and instead of ordering a new arm extension part we drilled out the rivets to get the mechanism out. Then, we re-threaded it by first sliding one end in then sliding it to the opposite end to get both wheels in. Once seated in the middle pull it over the frame and line up the holes. We used screws to anchor it in case it slips off again. Hope this helps...
