Awning Fabric Replacement

Hello,

Despite my procrastination, it is time to replace my Awning Fabric before an unforcasted event makes me "Sad".

I do not have any issue with understanding the replacement procedure. I am asking if anyone has a recommendation for where to purchase my replacement fabric? Shadepro is the dominant finding for replacement fabric during my online searching.

Any information, opinions or replacement fabric suggestions are appreciated.

Thanks.

We have used "Tough Top Awnings" with good results for both the main awning and slide toppers. Texas sun got the OEM fabric!!

Hi Bill and Mary,
Check with Carefree of Colorado, www.carefreeofcolorado.com. If going to the rally this year reach out to Affinity RV Repair Group there in Goshen as they can get the material pretty quick too. Take care.

Best,

The best awning material is Sunbrella, it's what sailors use for sail covers that sit in the sun all year. Also, Girard puts Sunbrella on some of their motor home awnings.

There is an easy way to replace the awning material. Drill a hole in the end of the roll up tube in the grove the awning is held in and the pull the awning through that hole. I’m not sure what size hole is needed but I suspect about a 3/4 inch should do. A camper repair shop showed me this.

I procrastinated as well, but opted for ShadePro for awning and couldn't be happier. We live in Central Texas where the weather is hot now, but can change to almost any version at the drop of a hat. With that said, we opted for the Heavy Duty Vinyl vs Acrylic. My wife and I removed the old fabric and installed the new fabric on a Powered Awning in less than 1.5 hours. I'd never done and watched the videos for some tips and was glad I did so. The only area we needed a 3rd person was feeding the new fabric into the channel on the top of the RV. My wife didn't have the strength needed, but we found an easy method. I placed the new fabric over the 5th Wheel nose and fed it through the channel towards my wife.
The wife is now asking when she and I will be doing the 3 slide toppers and the 3 window toppers. My answer was...after it cools off! Hope this helps!

Carefree used to be great, but the quality of their fabric has really gone downhill in the past six years. Bought four brand new slide toppers from them and installed them four years back. Two years later two of them were cracked and had holes. The other two are still holding up, but I had to replace two of them. Used another brand canvas.

Hi Bill,

If you have a chance, check out RecPro. They will be at the fall rally.

See you both soon.

All,

Thanks for the feedback on Awning replacement.

I ordered the ShadePro Heavy Duty Vinyl replacement fabric that will arrive tomorrow (Friday, 25 Aug). My wife and possibly a taller friend (wife is 5 ft) will install new fabric in the next few days before departing for the Rally. I will post how it goes!

Thanks for all the feedback
