Walt...one question I have is ..why the 2nd AC? We have a 2955RL also and live in Florida. While it never gets freezing inside on the hottest day, it is not uncomfortable. Unless you have been in it for the really hot weather and know you need it, I would wait until after your trip to decide if it is really necessary.

We have a standard profile 2nd AC in the front of my 3475. With travels from Alaska to Florida and alot of states in between, I always look at underpasses--13'3" is my minimum also in meters (4.038) for traveling in Canada. Some have seemed to be close--like the RR underpass in Alpine, Texas on US HWY 90. There is an add on bridge clearance database available for most GPS software programs. I am going to add it to my software in the spring when we start traveling again. The database is updated annually.

Not to dirty the waters but suggest you ask members their satisfaction with the low profile also.
I have a standard size AC up front and I am 13' 3".
Either of the heights you mentioned require watching your height all the time.
Good luck and good question.

Thank you! I didn't even know this existed.

My Garmin didn't come with POI's for low clearance but I use them from this site
http://lowclearances.com/
They have a compatability list and their low clearance list is kept up to date

Also consider the type of tow vehicle you have, the suspension system and other measuring factors.
With my old system, F350 King Ranch, Long Bed, Dually, when John measured it I was 13' 5". That was freshly hooked up.
After a time, the suspension may settle more and give you a little more clearance, but I'd go with a freshly hooked up 5th wheel measurements to the highest point. I'd also use a laser level on the highest point to a tape measure or board held on the side. You could mark the board and measure on the ground, or just mark the tape where the laser hits.
You have seen every thing from 12' 9" to 13' 6" mentioned but not all the variables have been presented. When in doubt go with the highest measurement hoping you are not over 13' 6".

I was just looking at the Rand McNally motor carriers’ road atlas and noted that in Colorado, 13 feet is the max height allowed on non-designated highways. It also notes that 14 feet 6 inches is the max for state designated highways. So I guess the 13 feet would be mostly county and local roads? It also points out that there is a section of I-25 in Denver where 13 feet is the maximum.

We installed a Penguin (with heat strip) in front for the clearance issues also and as near as I can tell are at 12' 9". I run two GPS's, one a Garmin 465T which allows you to enter your height, length and gross weight. No issues with the Penguin other than a blown capacitor under warranty.

The Montana Mountaineer 324RLQ has a listed height of 13' 2". Many campgrounds do not have the the clearance or are on the fringe of having enough, particularly older State, County, City parks. I went with the Dometic Penguin for that reason. A few inches does give you some piece of mind in close quarters. It's not just the road travel as mentioned above, the truckers atlas will help out there, it's about a few inches that will get you into some places you otherwise wouldn't go. The Penguin at 13,500 performs very well, no leaks as some have suggested. It will turn the bedroom into a meat locker in Florida's summer months.
