Slow front stabilizers

My front stabilizers are VERY SLOW. I understand the gearing is low but, they seem to be really straining to go up and down. The motor slows to a crawl with the full weight on them.....any suggestions?

Les and Patti,
I assume you are referring to the landing legs. Yes. They are geared very low. Just writing about them it is very difficult to know if they are really too slow or just normal slow. Unless they stop completely they are probably about normal.

Of course if your battery is low or bad then you may not be getting enough power. If it does the same with the shore power hooked up then it is probably not a power issue. Then again your converter may be bad. I guess I'd start by eliminating the power issue. Just make sure your battery and or converter are good.

You can also clean and grease the legs and gears and see if that helps any.

Again I'd remind you that the legs go up and down VERY slowly.

Good luck and let us know what you find out.
Dennis

Jack, are you saying that you run two motors now or did you just replace the original with a better one.

Should I use the dry lube on the landing legs? I am connected to shore power...brand new battery. I will keep an eye on them and try lubing. Thanks !

How do you get to the gears to grease them and what kind of grease do you use? Do you use the same grease on the legs?

This photo link may help.
Lift the flat top cover with sharp point or thin screw driver. I use axle grease. I also put a table spoon of 90 weight down hoping it will help lube the screw threads.

I suggest you take it back to your dealer and make the verify it is operating properly. If they say it is then ask them to show you on another unit too.

H. John Kohl had a great post on repairs to the landing gear. I just pop the cap on top of each gear and pour a little heavy oil in the top so it will run down then add a little wheel bearing grease to the gears.

My experience with the legs is as follows:
On our original 2007 3400, the motors were a lot different before and after our replacements. Our motors went bad and were replaced. My take is that when the bellies were lowered, the gearing on the motors was changed big time. What took about two minutes to raise and lower changed to five or six minutes (I am guessing). I would say that the motor gearing had to change at least by a factor of three. Perhaps the motor manufacturer could verify this, but there is a definite difference.

Rich, my original motor went bad on me but was covered through our extended warranty,at the time of replacement I added a second motor to the other leg which gave me one motor for each leg.

our motor when out this last January, it took a couple of months to line up a RV Service co. to call the extended Warantee co. Anyway we had it fixed and you are right this motor is a little slower than the original one. We were offered the secound motor and dual switch to run them seperately. I was told that would be better but to be sure you raise them at the same time or you can bend one leg or the other if the weight is on one leg only. If this motor goes out then I think I would try the second motor, the next time.

Les & Patti,
I see you have a 2010 so I assume it is still under warranty. If you are concerned about the motor I would have the dealer look at it under warranty.
