Fan-Tastic Fan and rain sensor
The weather in NE has been very, very humid.
The other day, the Fan-Tastic fan would not operate, flipped the switch to manual, and it worked fine, of course that night it rained and we had the fan on manual, a little rain came in.
Gave Fan-Tastic a e-mail, here is the reply and did what Jeff recommended and it is back functioning with rain senor switch on.
Thought I would pass it on.
E. Sven
"Good morning Mr. Carlson,
Those rain sensors are very sensitive. High humidity will close the dome lid. In this situation. Try opening the dome lid about 3 or 4 inches, just enough to start the fan blade. Then stop the dome lid by holding onto the black knob. This will force air over the rain strip to keep humidity off. Try this and let me know me.
Thank You,
Jeff"
(Instead of holding onto the know, I just pulled it down and the doem stopped)

Sensitive is definitely the word! The day before yesterday in NY we had the fan on when just a few drops of rain started hitting the roof and the fan closed...nice to see something work just way it is supposed to, isn't it?

if you go upon the roof have someone open the fan wipe the seal with a silcone spray that should help the seal from sticking and should open in auto after he seal is lubbed

Try cleaning the rain sensor. Dirt or mildew will also cause for extra sensitivity. Don't use anything real caustic. I have used a damp paper towel.

Drew,
I can remember (CRS) if it can with it or we bought it seperate, but we have a long rod with a rubber handle and a hook on it.
You can shut off the switch, or pull the handle to manual open the vent.
We also use it in the bedroom when we travel, down through the handle in the bureau to keep them closed when traveling.

Don't forget, that when you pull the knob down, the vent will not close in the event of rain. Don't leave it that way and then leave the rig unattended if rain is threatening.
Also of note:
If you want to stop the cover at a partially open position by holding the knob from turning. Only do it while the cover is opening. If you do it while the cover is closing, it will not close automatically in the event of rain! Ask me how I know!

On delivery, one thing my dealer warned me about...trusting the rain sensor in the Fantastic Fan. He said that while it is a very good and popular item, you can NEVER fully trust it.
