Titan replacement tank 2016 RAM 3500

I am considering replacing the stock 32 gallon tank with a 55 gallon Titan tank.
I would appreciate any and all comments.

Also, is there a market for the original tank.

thanks,-ed

Ed,

I installed Titan tank almost 6 years ago on my Ford. Fairly easy install - had dealer recalibrate computer to give new DTE. Have had no issues with the tank.

Do not believe there is much of a market for your old tank. Mine went in the trash.

I have researched this topic. That is the tank I would buy.

A 50 gallon Titan for me. So nice to hit the road and not have to start looking for a place to fill up after a couple hundred miles. I feel it was well worth the investment.

Changed to 55 gallon tank on my 2015 Ram 3500. Pretty easy change out, took about 2.5 hours.
Will need to get the rear end up on jacks minimum to have room to get tanks out from bottom. I used a floor jack to raise and lower tanks into positon.
There are some really goods videos out there that show how to do it in detail.
Have had it for over 25,000 miles and great to choose where to stop for fuel

We are a warehouse distributor for Titan. We do not sell to the public, but I could probably hook you up with a dealer that could save you money, depending on your location. Drop me an email if you wish.

In bed tank

Hello.
We added a 75 gallon in bed tank to our 2016 Chevy 3500 Dually diesel. I now have 109 gallons. It Is made by Transfer Flow. It automatically transfers fuel into my main tank without doing a thing. Both tanks drain together. The factory gage still works. There is a dash mounted digital gage to view the aux tank. Once I get to 1/4 tank, the aux tank pumps all the remaining fuel into the main tank. This almost fills the factory tank. This is a total hands off system. It’s also 50 states DOT legal. Almost all bed tanks that have a pump sticking up on top of them, are technically illegal. In the event of a roll over they can get ripped off. I’m guessing if you roll your fiver over, you already got issues to deal with.

That said. I really like my Transfer Flow tank. Look them up they cost a bit more but they completely hook into your existing system. Then you can remove it and install it into another truck if you buy a new one.
Check them out I love mine

I can now buy fuel where it’s cheapest. Not when I’m running on fumes. I have well over 1000 mile range pulling my 3791RD. That a total gross weight of 24,500 lbs on a cat scale.

Best of luck to you.

Left my tank in n added 50 gal titan in bed under the rim with plenty of space in front of andersen hitch, I have 85 gal. capacity for less money, installed by titan dealer $125.. When towing I only half fill it due to tongue wt. We are currently traveling across the country to our new home in Tenn., love having 60 gallons to run on, n will enjoy having 85 while using 2018 Ram without 5th wheel..Transfer 5 gallons on the fly with the push of a button when have dropped at least 1/4 tank..Easy to keep tank full

We did the Titan 55 gallon tank in our 2016 Ram 3500 dually and wish we had done it sooner. No more worrying about trying to fuel up with the 42' long 5th wheel attached. I went with the kevlar shield to go under it as well, just in case, since it hangs down about 1-1/2" lower than the 32 gallon OEM tank. I like it because it lets me keep my 8' long bed unobstructed. Plus keep in mind diesel is 8.3 pounds per gallon, so your GVWR or load on your rear axle can be affected by going with 75-100 gallon tanks in the rear of your bed. Plus I like having the CG lower with the fuel under the truck rather than sitting up higher, since the 5th wheels already like to wag us around a little!

Had the Titan 55 gallon tank installed in August 2018 for a total of $1,625 not including tax. As I remember it was $1,179. for tank and 4 hours labor. I selected the nearest Titan sponsored shop Robinson Racing near Sparta, TN and they were professional and reasonable in their labor charge. It is my understanding that for 2016 or later Ford trucks you can update the dash display Miles To Empty, which Ford Dealers will not do, with an app and interface plug adapter for computer which you can purchase for $45. which I plan to do this in the spring. Now we stop once a day for fuel, or fuel before/after towing.

FORD will do the update, they just prefer not to. They charged me 1 hour labor for a 5 minute job.

As for the tank, well worth it.

I didn't bother with trying to change the computer. I love it, the fuel gauge does not move for a 100 miles! Then when the low fuel light comes on, I know I still have 10 gallons left. So just go with it and enjoy. No need to have the computer to know exactly where your fuel level is. After about three fill ups, I knew exactly where i was.

I had my factory tank replaced with a 61 gal TransferFlow tank and also had their 50 gal aux tank with the Trax 3 system installed my bed. I went with the 50 gal aux tank because it was the largest tank that would fit under my BakFlip bed cover.

Dmaxdually, Have you checked your GVWR or your rear axle GAWR lately? By having 111 gallons of fuel, you have 921 pounds of fuel, or 656 more pounds than your stock configuration. Couple that with your cargo passengers, hitch and 5th wheel pin weight, you might be right up there? I know this, because my 2016 RAM 3500long bed dually has a GVWR of 14,000 and GAWR of 6,000 for the front axle, and 9,750 for the dually rear axle. We are at 9,620 pounds fully loaded with 55 gallons of fuel and passengers and dogs and hitch. Then when I drop my approx. 4,500 pound 5th wheel king pin on the rear, I will be slightly over on my GVWR, but ok on my rear axle GAWR. I don't know exactly what my new SOB 5th wheel king pin weight will be, but I have heard when loaded it can be 4,000-5,000 pounds. You might want to check out your weights.

We have a 50 gal transfer flow aux. tank in bed of our RAM 2500 Mega cab 4x4 with the automatic transfer (Trax 3) digital monitor on the dash. auxiliary tank maintains about the same amount of fuel (percentage wise) in both main & auxiliary tanks. Love it, don't have to manually pump into main tank. tank sits about 4" below rail of bed. We put a locking fuel cap on aux. tank.

vipermanden,
Yes I have. My GVWR is 13,000, GAWR Frt is 5600 & GAWR RR is 9375.
I had my rig weighed at a truck stop Cat Scale. Aux Tank was full (50Gal). Main tank was almost full (approx. 56 gals) cause I had to drive several miles to the scale. Truck and camper were loaded with every thing I normally carry when camping. I keep black and grey tanks empty when towing and fresh water tank at 1/4.

Cat Scale reading were:

Steer Axle: 3200 Lbs
Drive Axle: 7140 Lbs
Camper axles: 12320 Lbs
Gross Weight: 24660 Lbs

margerush,
Can you tell me the part number of your locking gas cap for you 50 gal aux tank and where you got it. I was looking for one when I had my tanks installed but couldn't find one that would fit. TransferFlow couldn't tell me which one would work. Thx
